There isn't really any and I think we can blame maybe how flat wickets are on that. 3/50 can turn into 5/500 on most modern day wickets so captains are cautious.
True, but Strauss this morning was laughable we are 3 for 2 and he has two men out for the hook and only 2 slips

I think you overestimate how many times a player has had to come in and save our asses at four or five. The list Beads provided is a pretty long one for a guy only playing his 66th test.

All of those though were at 5 and 6. He has never done it in the few matches he's batted 3 or 4. I can't say how many times he's been needed in those tests either, but the guy is a gun 5 or 6. He should be batting there.

Watson is a weird one. I really didn't think he could make it as a top order batsman, but he's making a good fist of it. Khawaja and Hughes are two guys who should soon be introduced into the top 4, and Smith shouldn't really be considered as anything higher than 6 I believe in tests. That to me says Watson may need to stay at the top or maybe move to 3. It's just the 4th top order batsman to join those three I can't put my finger on at this time.

Assuming the list is accurate and satisfies the criteria for that of a Test saving innings ;-) I don't think I am overestimating at all, just my opinion.

As I said, I think we detract from the Test match thread in debating about the criticisms of Clarke as a match saver. It would make for a good thread in the future though.

This really does look like the road to end all roads.

So those early 3 wickets are crucial considering there might be only another 10 to fall inside the first 3 days!

One of the big reasons they need to get rid of North this series. And have a long hard look at Hussey after the next Test series.

I can see Hussey retiring hopeful after this series. North does need to go but they don't have the balls for it the selectors.

If Hussey continues this form then having him around for a few series to help ease the youngster into North spot would be ideal. Then we can move him on, maybe Katich as well.

Very crucual Tommy, Anderson is having a wow of a series.

18th Man - I'm not counting the Aussies out just yet but the ball is definitely in England's court right now. It's going to take some career defining performances to pull Australia out of the fire and I truly hope they occur today.

Not to mention, I hoped my last comment would've put the mocker on England.

How many times does it have to be said. Clarke must be dropped forever...they guy hasnt scored on a decent wicket since he was driving Bingle through the covers.

Hussy and Watson will score double centuries.
