Maddinson is talented no doubt, but looks very, very raw.
Of course he is 18. Nice first class start though 5 innings, 1 50, 1 100 ave over 50 and a hungy on debut.

I am not suggest for the next test.

How chronic is it really if he has missed no tests due to the injury??

If its not the reason for his poor performances over the last series or two then he should be straight out dropped rather than rested.

lol

a chronic illness can develop slowly, will get worse with age. Clarke has managed it well to date

Understand, just because he has missed no tests, doesnt mean his back is 100% ;-)

Clarke has a great average in the 1st (48),2nd (44) and his best in third match (66) of a series, then drops to (40) in the 4th match and (9) in the last match of a series.
13 of his 14 centuries have come in the first three games of a series.
He averaged 65, last summer, this summer is averaging 7.
So clearly a poor start to the season.
But to suggest he fails under pressure does not stack up, if anything his stats prove he is unlikely to score big in a dead rubber.

Mate it is well known he has serious back issues. I have nothng but respect for the fact he has given up big money (IPL) to ensure he is available for Australia.

But bad backs rarely get better they just get worse.

Yeah Clarke has a degenerative condition, so it's only going to get worse. I think it's affected his power hitting ability, he seemed to be much stronger 3-4 years ago

Yes and personally I would like to see Clarke given the test team, give up the limited overs stuff and make sure he is paid well. I would be more than happy to have specialist test captain and batsmen.

If he starts with the man love in the test space, he will get the same criticism Punter does.
