Apparently in the other game currently having some sort of tournament in NZ at the moment are having 3-4 place play off next week 2 days prior to the Final..

If memory serves me, the 2008 WC did not have this - we would have had a England vs Fiji match if we did..

I'm wondering if the organisers of the 2013 WC may be considering such a match..??

There was no game at the last Rugby League world cup but England were thrid due to being the higher ranked loser in the semi finals.

Not sure if it would work in the RLWC though.

It's purly for rankings more than anything. Play offs for 3rd make more sense when Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are being awarded like the 7s in the Commonwealth Games. But in this case I believe it's just for rankings for the next world cup

Not necessary for us IMO. It would be a very hard game to market. Unless we we're confident of getting a good crowd, whats the point? Give the boys an extra games rest, its been a long year.

I like the 3rd place playoff, they do it in FIFA WC too. It helps with rankings and it gives us an extra match to watch.

2013 WC ESPECIALLY needs one, just in case England are playing in it... and, if the final is going to be in the south, this can be a token 'big match' for the north. Maybe Elland Rd or something...

The 3rd/4th place playoff at the FIFA WC is the biggest waste of time I can think of. The players just want to go home having recently lost the WC semi final. Believe me the attendance would be poor even if England were involved.

Have to agree with that
Having it as the game before the final could be a way of ensuring that England are playing on the day to help boost early ticket sales

Why not just make it a double header?
It might only add 5 or 10 thousand to the crowd that would have turned up already for the final alone (if england weren't in the final), it is still another game, which would be played in front of a good crowd, and helps with the rankings.
