lalala

this tour actually starts in half an hour with a tour match between New Zealanders and South Africa A.
The first international match is this Friday, the first of 3 T20Is, then a tour match, then the test portion starts with a new year's test (there will be separate threads for those)

Well on the kiwi bandwagon for sure.

The Taylor thing leaves a real bad taste, but going for RSA is like going Manly, it is just not done.

Carn Kiwis give it to them, go Southee, go the young fellas, f**k the establishment and the saffas!!!!!!

I meant to mention that AB de Villiers has pulled out of the T20s and it was announced not long after the South Africans returned to South Africa that Faf would be captaining the side for the T20s in this tour and that Kallis and Amla would be rested from them (and that was when AB was still going to play, they just wanted to give him a go at it)

New Zealanders won the toss and elected to bat first and are currently 30/2 after 5 and a half overs. It's a T20 though

Tim Southee is a man in form. He played really well in their tour of Sri Lanka and a series like that could be the making of him.

To back that up in a 4 day game for Northern D's the other day he came in with his team in trouble at 6/160 and belted 156 of 130 balls, then came out and rip the heart out of the to tke 4/16. (The only 4 wickets to fall so far)

here's the rest of the story from the link above
Tim Southee, the New Zealand fast bowler, has been ruled out of the Test series in South Africa because of a thumb injury. He needs surgery for a ruptured ligament and is likely to be sidelined for six-eight weeks.

Southee sustained the injury while diving in the field during a Plunket Shield match between Northern Districts and Wellington at Karori Park. He scored 156 off 130 balls and took seven wickets in Northern Districts' six-wicket win.

"He landed heavily on his thumb while fielding, with scans indicating the ligament has fully ruptured and retracted," New Zealand physio Paul Close said. "After consultation with NZC medical staff and a hand specialist it was decided the best course of action is for him to have surgery.

"He will commence rehabilitation immediately following the procedure, with a view to him returning to cricket during the home summer.
The procedure is likely to keep him out of the game for 6-8 weeks."

New Zealand have not decided on a replacement for Southee, who was their best bowler in the drawn Test series in Sri Lanka, where he took 12 wickets in two matches. Eight of those came in the second Test in Colombo, which New Zealand won by 167 runs.

3am daylight savings time. I doubt I will last til 3 and I do hate T20s a lot but I am interested in what teams are named, also interested in Faf's captaincy debut and Domingo's effect as head coach for these T20Is. Also interested in Morne because I love him

ha.ha...ahahahahaa... Appalling. The Mike Hession-cover era without Taylor begins in infamy. Only positives for me, McClenaghan good first two overs, Munro I thought timed the ball well. The others, played like headless chooks. Wonder what Hession-covers great tactics were. "Boys, go out and there and smash it... go get 'em."

This mong is kidding himself if he honestly believes causing political chaos that means Taylor doesn't play, and the next best bat, Ryder, seems fairly indifferent about coming back. Murphy Su'a would do a better job. I'd love to know what the manager's role in the whole Taylor debacle was, he really should have have his nuts out of Hession-covers purse and made sure the process was a little bit better than this woeful mess turned out to be.

from a South Africa perspective, I suppose that was excellent, but I really think that was a disappointing start to the tour and if New Zealand is best at shorter forms of the game, then it's hard to see it getting better. If Ross Taylor returns, he does have the capacity to inspire, but I'm not sure how what's been done with him will affect his game. He made a hundred runs in 5 overs in the world cup last year
