Brisbane was a completely different situation.

1st test, coming off losing 7-0 in the 2 series before that, against a side that just shut us out a couple of months earlier and who looked to be at the peak of their powers as the best team in the world. Going into the Brisbane test many of us would have been happy with a strong draw.

This is the 3rd test. We need to win the test to win the series. We've already bruised the Saffers into mental submission.

We need to win this test. We needed not to lose in Brisbane.

I don't think Clarke has ever made a dud declaration. His intent at all times isn't to look after his average, or allow personal milestones. It's to win cricket games. Like him or hate him, he's getting very good at it.

Also, losing after your opponent declares hurts a team in both the batting and bowling department. THAT'S what we needed to do in Brisbane.

Revisionist history and people going out of their way just to pick the opposite view to mine.

Unlike seemingly everybody else, I actually remember what 2012 and 2013 were like up until tea on day 1 of the Brisbane test. I remember the reputations Cook, Trott, KP and co had at that point. I remember the reputations Johnson, Haddin and even Warner had at that point.

Brisbane is not comparable at all to this test. We were awful before Brisbane. Now we're the most intimidating team in the world.

Now we are the best. We should be looking to curbstomp every one that we come up against now. Back then it was different.

Sri Lanka did it to try to slow down Matthew Wade a couple of years back in Sydney... didn't work.

Only time I can recall it is Pakistan doing it against us in the series that it turned out they were throwing
