Ladbrokes announced as title sponsor for 2016 4 Nations. Looks like Nein will be broadcasting in Aus too (hopefully all the games, not just the Kangaroos!)....

Ladbrokes has become the title sponsor of the 2016 Rugby League Four Nations. Already a sponsor of the Challenge Cup and Super League, the deal will see Ladbrokes strengthen its presence in the UK and Australian markets, and extend its partnership with the sport into the international arena.

Ladbrokes will get premium brand exposure from the seven matches featuring England, New Zealand, Scotland and current world champions Australia. The tournament kicks off in Hull on Friday 28th October with Australia vs Scotland, and will conclude with a final at Anfield on Sunday 20th November.

Jon Dutton, Ladbrokes Four Nations Tournament Director, said: “Ladbrokes are a fantastic partner to work with and very professional in their approach to the game. Some of the best players in the world will be in the country for the Four Nations this autumn, and having Ladbrokes on board will enhance this competition on and off the field. Being associated with international Rugby League can strengthen their brand in the sports betting market.”

Kristof Fahy, Chief Marketing Officer of Ladbrokes, said: “We enjoy a terrific relationship with Rugby League and it’s a sport that welcomes the value that the Ladbrokes brand is able to offer. We’re now extending the investment we’ve made in the sport in the UK to the international stage where we know we can have a real impact. We plan to match the rugby skills on show with our own sporting passion, to help deliver a Ladbrokes Four Nations tournament which will excite fans in both hemispheres.”

Last year’s three-test international series between England and New Zealand drew in a UK audience of more than 4 million on the BBC, as England beat the Kiwis 2-1. The BBC will broadcast the 2016 Four Nations tournament along with Channel 9 Australia, Sky New Zealand and Premier Sports.

Well I will not be watching.

Unless fox runs replays, I will not see a game.

I refuse to watch CH9. Even waited for the reply at origin time

I expect Channel 9 will ignore games not featuring Australia

They could shunt them to Go or whatever their 2nd channel is. But wouldn't surprise me if they just had the rights and didn't show any but Aus V NZ & England.

talking of gambling...our coverage of the NRL on premier sports, when sterlo or vonny link to joel caine to do his sports bet thing we don't see that anymore,we get random shots of the stadium or team lineups then we hear 5,4,3,2...then sterlo or vonny appear again..

we get the raw feed you see..don't go to ads after tries or breaks in play either, ive heard rabs waffling so right shit over the years lol

but anyway...a sponsor is better than no sponsor

Not really new. RL is good at embracing social scourges. Used to be tobacco (Winfield Cup, Rothmans Medal) then alcohol (VB blues, XXXX Maroons) now betting.

What's next - Home pron?

Good for RL to get some $, but socially it's time all gambling and alcohol companies were banned from sponsorship.

I don't want them banned, I don't believe in banning things because someone thinks they're bad for someone else.
I do however think Rugby League should maybe set its sights a little higher, at least for international competition. The Qantas Four Nations would sound a bit nicer than the Piss and Pokies Four Nations, for example. Another area in which Union has it over us.

Not sure why Aussies are opposed to gambling sponsorship? Ladbrokes is a billion dollar company, not like it's a small-time or embarrassing brand like the f**king mushy pea company that sponsors Super League. The EFL is sponsored by a betting company and is a pretty solid brand to me. Maybe the culture is just different here.

Guess it's a bit on the nose here, a lot of people think it should be treated like smoking sponsorships back when (Also respectable billion dollar companies).

I think it just says something about the kind of respect rugby league gets, and its aspirations. I dunno. Discussion for another day - I'm sure it's a valuable sponsorship regardless.

Lack of respect is a valid point, especially when you look at the state of the current Super League sponsors which are pretty much the lowest of the low-brow. No type of issue with gambling sponsorships at all over here though, it's perfectly acceptable in the mainstream and I wouldn't have even considered it to be an issue if it hadn't been brought up in this thread, gambling advertisement is literally everywhere regarding sports over here. To be honest the fact that we have a sponsor that I've actually heard of and isn't something completely ridiculous and embarrassing is more than we usually get in British RL, be thankful it isn't Foxy Bingo or something.

Oh it's everywhere here too, to the point where every sports show has live odds updates. I think they stopped doing it mid-game, thankfully.
I just find it tacky, and think it's an interesting reflection of the two Rugby codes and their main demographics again.

Nothing wrong with the sponsorships per se. I think its how its flogged to be honest. If its emblazoned all over the jersey like the VB Kangaroos, VB Blues, XXX Maroons then its a bit depressing to see the kids wearing those ads. Especially given the problems over here - see Leeds' link. As AK mentioned, the betting advertorials at halftime are also pretty terrible.

In comparison, Bundy rum sponsored the Wallabies for 10 years or so. You wouldn't notice it looking at the jerseys as there wasn't a massive logo on the midsection, just a crest.

So does this mean not ALL the games are on the BBC in the UK?
