Only the Sharks top 25 signings must play pl as they are inelligible to play jb, all other players compete for positions in either pl or jb

I can't imagine all 15 contracted Cronulla players not being used in First Grade would be dropped to Newtown PL. I imagine that, where age permits, younger players will go back to Cronulla's Flegg team if they aren't in the top grade.

their Top 32 does not include Flegg players I believe.

That'd be a change from this year then. Without knowing the squad for this year, I find it difficult to believe that we have nobody 20 years or younger in our top 32.

Sorry, I failed to see the squad list posted earlier in this thread.

Kids like Rhys Lovegrove, Luke Douglas and Kris Pyper are all still eligible for Flegg in 2005. There may be others too. But I can't see these kids going back to Newtown PL when they are still eligible for Cronulla's Flegg team.

Thanks Dread. That's what I thought also. It looks like our JB side will be hampered as always.

Thanks Jeffles. Looks like we'll have to sign several players and keep them as bench players just in order to fill gaps when necessary. Newtown can't afford this, and the players would only being selling themselves short.

I still hope we can secure players of the calibre of Ben COOK, SINISA, and get them under the points system in JB cup. It won't be long before they were required in PL I'm sure.

Just hope we can fill the gaps when injuries, suspensions occur with competant PL players, instead of just giving some of Cronullas Jersey Flegg boys game experience.

Our team last year was very competative and should and could have made the top eight. It''s a shame that players that gave so much loyalty to the Bluehags may be missing out on a run next season because of the JB points system, and the lack of players Newtwon are allowed to personally recruit.

I hope we have enough to fill any holes that may appear, and still have a team that is capable of making the PL top eight.

I was looking through some old Big Leagues from last season that I had lying around, and saw that Luke COVELL who has been signed by Cronulla played in the 38/20 defeat of Newtown at Campbelltown in round 4. He scored 14 points, one try and five goals.

When Wests played Souths beating them 40 to 28 earlier that season he kicked 8 goals when his team scored six try.

It would be nice if he was kicking goals with this kind of consistancy for Newtwon instead of against them.

I don't think he played later that year when Newtown defeated Wests 42 to 28 at Henson as Ken McGuiness was kicking goals that day ( he kicked 4 and scored a try also ).

Newtown have lacked a consistant out wide goal kicker since being in PL in 2000. Barnsey is a legend player, but hey, to have a consistant goal kicker, who also know where the try line is will be a bonus.

Bea SCOTT was the Captain of the St George Jersey Flegg side in last seasons April issue, and Luke HARLEN is in the 2nd row for the Penrith Cougars Jersey Flegg side.

At this time of the season St George are on top of the ladder having won 4 from 4.

That fullback SIMMONS looks pretty good too. In round 14 Big League he was placed on the wing for the Sharks Canberra game in NRL. Having played 11 NRL games already that season for the sharks and scoring 7 tries in 11 games.

I'd never actually heard of him, but he looks pretty good. He'll probably start in NRL on the wing but I geuss.

A lot of the other Sharks listed players above have prior NRL experience and went up to NRL last season to fill injury gaps, thus earning priceless NRL experience. Doing the math atleast some of the players must be in the starting side for the Jets in 2005.

When these players were dropped back to Pl when the more experienced players returned last season, the Sharks actually started to win games in PL, and win by some big scores against good PL opposition.

I geuss these are some positives.

Hutch MAIAVA seems to have been a regular at No8 for the Bulldogs PL side last season. They few programmes I have from last year show he can also score a try.

Hutch Maiava is a brute. You'll love him to bits if he plays for the Jets. Hard as nails. I was desperate for him to come out our way, but we've got Richie now. Superboot is another you'll never tire of watching, but I reckon he's a special for first grade.

Goal kicking has been a problem for the Jets since entering PL. It HAS cost us more than one game in the past.

* Losing 8 to 10 against the Dogs in year 2000 was the worst. Then missing out on the semi's in eigth spot by for and against, ( with injured players to return for semi's if we made it ). Was one example.

We had convincingly thrashed Penrith that year, and defeated the Dogs also in the other game. These two teams went on to contest the grandfinal with the Berries the victors. Penrith knowing that they had to beat what had been a good Cronulla side that season by ( I can't remember but it was huge ) points, in order to beat Newtown ( who had played the day before ), to a spot in the semi's finishing on equal points, however a higher for and against.

They did it. Securing eighth spot, and playing through to the grandfinal before going down to the Berries.

One things for sure, neither Cronulla or the Jets should be short of big hard hitting forwards next season.

Does anyone know if there are other players signed by Cronulla who are capable goal kickers, and may get a run with the Jets PL side ??.

Have you lot got a squad listing yet?

We're bringing:
1. Shannon Gallant
2. Adam Fletcher
3. Michael Crockett
4. Ben Yelavich
5. Rocky Trimarchi

6. Aaron Beath
7. Ryan Borg

8. Sika Teaupu
9. Isaac DeGois ©
10. Richard Parker
11. Peter Mannion
12. Andy Hampson
13. Justin Miller

14. Aaron Sweeney
15.
16.
17.

We've got a few guys going to Ulladulla with the Tigers so it looks like a few Flegg boys will get a call up. Still we've got a monster pack with a try sneak at lock, clever halves, and speed to burn in the three quarters.

Make sure the Tooheys Old is on ice for me Bluebags.
