It used to be the 2nd but for some reason they moved it to the 3rd for South Africa in 09 and it's been there since. I'd prefer the 2nd.

Prior to that it was the 2nd. ICC suits decided 3 day buffer was required between each test.

So if the MCG test finished on the 30th (5th day), the 2nd Jan would fall as only 2 days rest, hence the move to the 3rd

I must admit I prefer the 2nd as well. Thats what test cricket is all about, at times playing back to back tests, survival of the fittest , physically and mentally

Amazing story, they picked Beer in the squad for the WACA test due to his "local knowledge" but he doesn't play.

Then he gets picked in the 11 at the SCG, were he's never played a game in his life.
