Haddin (with a nice support role from Smith) has singlehandedly got Australia back into this test when we were looking lucky enough just to crack 200. Now, we've got there before the end of the 2nd session without losing any wickets and cranked up the run-rate, rather than getting bogged down like we did in the first innings in Melbourne

To be fair we lost Bailey. But it doesn't really count.

Great session for the Aussies, Hads and smith have been great but England once again let their foots off our throats. We won'r get this charity against the Saffa's.

:lol:I know what you're saying but I mean that since Haddin came in we haven't lost any wickets and we're not scoring at 2 an over like we were in Melbourne where we completely plateaued in the 1st innings before Haddin came to bat and upped the ante.

If we get anything over 300 now, regardless of whether our tail gets skittled cheaply, England have really let us off the hook and only have themselves to blame with crap bowling given they had us at 5/93. 3yrs ago in the 2010/11 Ashes, we would've easily been bowled out for sub-200 in the same situation.

At 5 for 100 odd surely you concede a few extra runs in the pursuit of a vital wicket? He seems to go in to ODI captaincy mode and tries to contain the batting when there's no over limit lol

Absolutely, and the funny thing is that the Australian top order hasn't really been that impressive in the first innings of most games. It probably irks me a bit more when it's a young guy on debut or early on in his career. His first taste of test cricket and the captain is pretty much telling you you're not good enough.

Ironic that a half decent positive field sees Borthwick get a wicket in his first over, the sad thing being that it's not Cook's career that may suffer for it.

It's not like we're playing against Bangladesh or New Zealand.

Remember, this England side is nearly the same team that 12 months ago broke a 25+ year losing streak in India, winning 2-1 (where we got rissoled 4-0 there only months later and have only won one series there since 1969).

A huge fall from grace 12 months later given that Swann's retired, Panesar's dropped (remember, those two spinners took 37 wickets between them to win the series), Prior has been dropped, Trott's gone home, Anderson has bowled like crap, Pietersen has lost his temperament and got out playing T20 shots, and Cook has not only batted poorly but more importantly shown absolutely no leadership skills as captain during this series - everything from team selections to bowling changes to diabolical field placings for his bowlers....

No disrespect to our side who has played outstanding this series. The 2006/07 Ashes teams were obviously far better in talent and form than the current teams in this series from both sides. If the Poms lose to this Australian side 5-0, it really does show how much of a rabble the Poms have been this series after having us on the ropes in the 1st innings of every test. After being on top for the first time in a test match during the series, that really was an epic capitulation in the 3rd innings of the last test where the Poms had two batting collapses (3/1 and 5/6) totalling 8 for 7!

Mate they are a piss weak disinterested rabble, led by a poor skipper with no confidence in himself and his players. Most of their stars are badly out of form or well past it.

Looks like Rankin is back on and may be able to bowl again later.
