I don't think a world 9's serves any purpose.
Union only propped it up to get into the Olympics so they could leverage government funding more effectively, something League is nowhere near.

World 9s sounds like fun but it doesn't sound like a profitable excercise.
Maybe regional international 9s tournaments could work, but inviting international teams to the Auckland 9s or a circut doesn't sound viable/ worth the effort.

I don't think an emerging nations world cup is the way to go.
If we want minnows playing more games than expand regional tournaments and WC qualifiers, a consolation tournament would be a massive moneysink and not really worth the effort.
Sending minnows halfway accross the world to play other minnows is just throwing money away, especially when most have local rivals.
If they don't then we look at flying teams in or flying them out.
Try to keep flying time down for minnow teams.

Mmmm ... some of those ideas mentioned sound very familiar......:)

In a utopian world, perhaps we can achieve all these but as the code has never been afraid to shoot itself in the foot or fail to follow up on snippetts of interest (like USA in the 20's and 60's) I unfortunately see perhaps less than a quarter of these ideas coming through.

Happy to be proved wrong though !

You had one idea you mentioned twice, so I'll replace it with

47: Rugby League Federation of the Americas, with USA, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobego, plus our growth in Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Make it easier to encourage development in these areas by keeping the focus to the "western" hemisphere.

Loved the article

Most items I am full support

Let's keep up the noise IRL is starting to be noticed

Anyway if you pick up RL Review is was a great advertisement for how far IRL has come

Revisiting this after some time to think....

Normally i am very much supportive of RL's advancement in the International arena, but unfortunately events of this year have dented and disillusioned me.

Namely...

The failure to follow up on the good work of the RLWC with 'feet on the ground' support like Development Officers or planning a financially sponsored / supported development tour for either a lower tiered 'traditional four' or an emerging RL nation. Bolstering Europe / Africa with a French Federale XIII short tour through Spain, Morocco and Ghana could be an idea ! If the GB Pioneers can do something - why not the RLIF ???

Recognising its history in general is poor for International RL.

No recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the original 1954 RLWC ( After such a tremendous celebration in 2004 of the 50th :sarcasm:) Sometimes i wonder if the idea of the Rorkes Drift Test 'Centenary' acknowledgement in Melbourne during the 4N'swas even considered before raised in this forum. History seems to be confined to..... the last time the Kangaroos didn't make / win a series final.

Surely someone could put together a calender of events so important or pertinent dates can be acknowledged.

Finally, a personal issue - the lack of contact received back from the RLIF. Surely there is some way that someone can reply to the odd email a fan sends to them via their website. A generic 'Thanks for the email. We'll get back to you soon' should be a minimum.

And, tacked onto this - the unbeleivable fact that NO ANNUAL REPORT has been made available by the RLIF ! Are we an International sport entertaining masses and generating millions of revenue ...or some fly by the seat of your pants hobby club ???

This one really irks me ! Sure i can find the AR of a hundred world sporting bodies if i tried !

Anyhoos that's my rant !

Love the game at International level and would do the 2013 RLWC trip again in a heartbeat - but seriously we need to lift our game on a few issues.

"6. Eligibility rules tightened – avoiding the tacky nation swapping or make it more difficult to swap over a longer time scale"

isn't it ironic, and symptomatic of the delusional thinking involved in all of this, that to implement this single point will do more to damage int league than any good if every one of the other 59 were to be implemented??!!

Absolutely wrong, as per usual.

Absolutely wrong, as per usual.

Surely you must tire of being wrong all the bloody time!!

Here's what will happen. The large reservoir of Kiwi players, with PI heritage, that is at present available to PI nations, will dry up. These players are proud kiwis, and will not casually give up the possibility of playing for the kiwis in the future. That's half your Samoan team down the gurgler!!

here's another thing,

if there is to be no nation switching, then that would have to include test players for the big three, whose services are no longer required, switching to a developing league nation of their heritage. This would be good, IMO. It is selfish for these players to be stealing the places from up-and-comers, in a team they chose not to represent when they had the choice.

It's completely hypothetical to say that. If there were more tests for the PI nations many heritage players might have an overriding pride on their nation of heritage to want them to choose them over their nation of residence.

There really should be a 2 year sit-out period if you want to swap nations, a lot of sports have this in place. It is so cringe-worthy seeing someone like Eddy Pettyborne who plays for Samoa in April last year then in October is playing for the USA which was his 3rd nation he's represented.

From a few points guys. I have contact with tas baiteri on annual basis.
The problem i can see from feedback
* money is biggest issue holding back code to develop properly.
* the is a massive need for another pro league somewhere in world what has been achieved is nohting short of amazing.
* he is now employed by nrl, my gut tells me nrl with takeover alot of develop of code worldwide already seen with pacific.
* player burnout is major factor in pullouts of french national team for euros.
* the needs to be calendar for aleast big 3, pacific nations and france. Each season in advance at present we have only anzac test, possible double header pacifc test(city country weekend), nz v england test series. Rumoured of england v france, nz v samoa (prior to uk tour), kumuls v pmxiii.
* the origin issue i raised, he has no solution other than possible guys from pacific background opting for 2nd nation if miss out on roos.
*italy - joel first have you guys had any feedback from rlif, the longer it takes it could kill momentum built. Raised merger they want it to happen.
* russia -anything could happen grassroots still there with juniors.
*atlantic identifed as big development region with jamacia multi tier league and juniors, usa merger and up to 20 clubs in new format and canada growing rapidly.

We should develop France, NZ and USA and the next top class national leagues

I can't see how playing in the ESL or BRL is developing the domestic competitions
