Don't get me wrong, SS...I care too.

It's the cloak-and-dagger cryptic approach used to highlight those stats that bores me.

Besides, I think the second half capitulation on Sunday was more a product of a complete team failure. Those guys probably missed the most tackles because they copped most of the runners coming at them. Nutley and co maybe didn't 'miss' as many tackles because they may not have been lined up by the attacking players as often.

Basically good coaching. Lang had his big runners line up some of the blokes that he thought would struggle late in the game, staying away from the more solid defenders.

Is anyone able to show the missed tackles for EACH player as a percentage of tackles attempted? I mean, if Sam (as an example) was getting targeted by the attack, he may have been asked to attempt more tackles than Nuts, or Gallen or whoever. Same with Aitken or Sully compared with Hilder.

I have learned in my day job that you can do ANYTHING with stats.

Thats how some people like to get their stats up through doing this and creating a dozen new topics each and everyday. Oh to have the time of some people

I don't think you could say many players from the Sharks side had brilliant stats coming from the Panthers game. It was quite obvious the Sharks were overpowered by a much stronger dominant forward pack with mobility but without sacrificing size. We have mobility but lack consistent size right across our pack. With a straight line defence in the first half we contained them but in the secondhalf their forwards focused on alot more second phase play in which a more staggered less organised defensive line was put under pressure and cut to threads.

To focus on a players stats in one game means pretty little on a statistical basis in analysing there overall tackling skills. But a high missed tackle rate anytime is a worry because it means an opposition team knows how to make your team fatigue or weaknesses in certain players or team patterns as a whole.

When the Sharks have been thrashed this year it's been because of three things.

*1--Any team like the Roosters who are generally quicker and fitter have targetted the middle of the rucks with their nippier players like Wing. Once they have the roll on they then look at short passes around the ruck to catch out our tired less mobile forwards who can't come across in cover quick enough to stop a line break. Priddis killed us also on Sunday with his dummy half running that gave their bigger forwards momentum and a bigger wind up because of our backtracking forwards. Once our forwards stop moving up the opposition playmakers have more room, more offloads and place more stress on the defence.

*2-- Alot of teams have targetted our centres this year. Vagana had a high miss tackle rate in the Penrith game but if you scan through his overall stats you'll find he's been pretty sound compared to anyone else in that position this year. Franze has been disastrous in the two games he's played against Souths and Canberra and McGoldrick has also a bad mistackle rate apart from a couple of games. Bailey and Gallen have done well most times defensively when placed in the centres but can get badly exposed from scrums where the opposition quicker centres get on the outside of them and beat them for speed.

*3-- The other reason we have got beaten badly in alot of games is because we have failed to stop the oppositions big go forward guy. Noth Queenslands Rauhihi couldn't be stopped, Wiki pulverised us without Stevens in Canberra and the hair bear bunch from Penrith roamed Shark Park at will .

What's the answers?

We need to slow the game down to our pace when we play the more fitter and elite teams.Marker defence has to be spot on to tighten the rucks and work hard the full 80 minutes. More kicks into touch to regroup and slow any possible momentum from opposition and reduce our rate of fatigue. We need to purchase a more defensive centre to help plug the gaps out wide and we need to purchase some more powerful props and secondrowers with mongrel and size without sacrificing mobility.

If you dominate the rucks and have a forward pack which keeps a consistent level of dominance right through the 80 minutes it's amazing how the missed tackles dry up.

isnt he the forward who comes on fresh after the hard stuff and only plays 50 minutes compared to the others at 80 minutes?

I thought it was Midnight Oil's new Album.

Garrett had to backtrack at 6 when he joined the Labor Party.

I don't see Bird in there ... therefore if you want to judge everything on stats, Bird is a lot better than Aitken :)
