It was very cool. Pont Du Hoc hasnt been touched since 1944. Tonnes of craters and miles of bunker networks to explore. A must for any WWII buff.

The Gold, Sword, Juno, Utah and Omaha beaches are a bit meh but just seeing those places with so much history is a worthwhile venture.

Are you able to actually go swim in the water? I want to do my own landing on one of the beaches.

That's how I feel in every town between Wellington and Auckland. I'm never doing that road trip again, just going to fly.

South Island is even worse, like an entirely different continent...

Plant a prosthetic arm near some kids, and when they dig it up and start screaming, run over (with arm hidden in shirt) and claim it as yours

Yeah you can, all the beaches have little summer houses and stuff near them. Its quite surreal considering what happened there 60 odd years ago.

I recommend going to the American Cemetery too. The scale of the place is pretty overwhelming.

The holocaust exhibit at the Imperial War museum in London is one of the most powerful things I have ever seen. I'd post pic's but you aren't allowed to take any.

we found that Bali monument by complete fluke and cried a fair bit.. sometimes getting lost in london works out!

Yeah, one day I'm going to do a world war two tour looking at all the war themed stuff, work my way accross Europe from France to Volgograd (Stalingrad).

Not really my bag. I love history, I find it fascinating, but the army aint my cuppa. Especially since we don't have any tanks to drive ;-)
