A Contract is a Contract, is a Contract....or is it?

Strange days these. "I thought I was just giving Peter Doust my autograpgh. I didn't realise that I was signing a contract", says Tim Moltzen. Strange days these... The Wests Tigers accept Moltzen is leaving...until Robert Lui does what Robert Lui does best and is soon to be cut from The Wests Tigers. Hold the phone... The Wests Tigers want Moltzen back! It seems like Moltzen is from the same school of thinking as that other Contract challenged Dragon from years gone past, Mr Gordon Tallis. So what to do if you were Peter Doust? Time for smart and agile thinking I reckon. Firstly, if a player does not want to be at your club, get rid of him. Secondly, make The Wests Tigers pay some compensation to us for a release. Thirdly...now gather in close...DO NOT TOUCH TODD CARNEY!!!!!!!!!!!! Fourthly, as Manly as shown this year there are bunch of young kids dying to have a go at the top grade...go get one! Finally, what sort of group of professionals are player managers? Seriously!

perhaps you have been living in a cave for a few years but a contract hasnt be worth anything in a decade...
i do agree with your points though - let him leave if he doesnt want to play with us, seek a generous compensation from the tigers, and sign a young up and comer.
i would seriously look at signing robert lui. he is only 21 and has proven this year to be one of the best young halfbacks in the game...
lets give him a chance... might be able to get him really cheap since he would be looking for a chance to redeem himself next year..

Wouldn't want Lui at our club regardless if he did have talent. He is a wife basher.
You would think he would want to redeem himself this year after she dropped the charges last year. Alas no...serial offender

The last thing we need post-Bennett is someone like Lui. Price trying to establish himself as head coach with a time bomb waiitng to explode?

Since the Wes Naiqama / Paulini days several seasons ago now, we have been amazingly scandal-free.

Lets keep it that way. No Lui please.

Release a fullback and sign a halfback. Not to mention one charged twice with beating up his missus. Genius

No way! Lui is overatted cannot defend to save his life there are way better halves than him! Not to mention that he is bad news I would rather take Carney than Lui.

Need I remind you all that we have a kid named Reece Simmonds waiting by the phone?

We could have probably kept Cuthbo and Mckinnon. Poor from the Tigers and Moltzen.

Cummins is going to be a hell of better player than Moltzen and we already have him signed.. if he is good enough to step up then give him a chance.. But Kyle to 1 next year whatever happens with Moltzen now... he wanted it (mid season) give him the chance to make it his own..

I agree with this, let Kyle Stanley play fullback for a year or 2 & then Cummins will be ready for NRL. The 2nd part of this plan is to move Stanley to 5/8 for the long term.

1. if the tigers want him that much make them buy out his contract = x3 years = $$$$$
2. Buy Carney - Yes Buy Carney
3. Hornby back to fullback - where he belongs

In the words of the great Gus Gould "no no no no no!!"
Hornby's days at fullback are long gone. Just not quick and dynamic enough.

I want the Dragons to maintain their image post Bennett. No off field incidents or trouble, steer clear of Carney and Lui etc.

I agree with point 1 though.

How about Matt Giteau? A bit out of left field, but he's surely annoyed with his treatment in that other game....

If the Dragons are smart its win win. Either moltzen plays or we get mega bucks in compo. It all depends on where price wants him to play. If It's fullback we have style/cummins. Centre we have style and vidot to cover. No point in considering halves because price will not change the premiership winning halves combo his first year

No. Moltzen stays for two reasons.

1. We need him for next year whatever sort of potential Cummins has.
2. A big club like St George bites back when a smaller club like Wests squeaks at it. That is how we maintain our status. It is critical for Doust to exert our authority in the NRL. We are not Souths.

When the dust has settled, Moltzen will do the job he is supposed to do. We are a bigger and more successful franchise than Wests who are in that tier with Penrith, Canberra and the Scum of unevenly supported, second rung NSW teams left over from the old days of the Winfield Cup. He will recognise this within two weeks of preseason training.

Telegraph beat up.

we dont need a fullback - we have several options there..
Kyle Stanley, Jason Nightingale etc...

we need a halfback..

is that too simple to understand?

I'm not saying we don't need him, I'm on the moltzen band wagon. What I'm saying is we don't need to go alpha club for a player if he doesn't want to play. We are St George, we are better than that. The V bows to no one, but we shouldnt cheapen our jersey if a muppet is not proud to wear it. That would be where we are better than the tigers, who sell half their team for one player looking for a pay day

Well said... but lets wait and see until Moltzen comes out and says that he wants to stay @ the tigers... if that is the case, they can keep him...but I still think we need to be compensated as other players that we may have been interested in @ the time of the Moltzens signing would most likely now be not available...Therefore meaning that we have lost the opportunity to sign someone else.

a contract, not worth the paper its written on( joke intended) hearing the way doust speaks at the red v forums, don't think he would make an announcement if he wasn't sure, maybe the nrl needs to get all parties together and thrash it out, while it goes on scum media outlets like the daily terror, ch nine etc will milk it.
