Anyone else caught any of the 'A Final Story' series focusing on past VFL/AFL GFs.
They're very well produced, and while GFs are invariably about the winners, I must admit to getting more from the poignant remembrances of players from the losing sides.
In particular I was taken by:
- The old Hawks from 1975, and how hard it was for them to listen to radio excerpts of the upset loss to North.
- The torment of Rene Kink and Ray Shaw recollecting lost GFs in the 1980 one.
- Peter Moore and the discussion of Tom Hafey's OTT training methods in the lead-up to the 1981 GF.
- Wallace, Eade & Schwab still struggling to deal with 1984 nearly three decades later.
- The surreality of the 1989 recollections, with real interest in the views of Malcolm Blight and Mark Yeates.
- The pressure demands felt by Alan Joyce in 1991 and how he was still having difficulty with not being able to coach AFL anymore, 15 years after his last game.
- The sadness of Stephen Alessio recalling the 2001 decider.
Ripper series. get a look at 'em, if you haven't already.
