A large broom is necessary

Time to clean out the deadwood. The Eels are facing seasons of defeat unless they bring in new personel. How could a team fork out 9 million to rebuild their team, yet be right back to square one in less than a decade.
I know these thoughts won't be entirely popular, but this is where I'd start.

Smith
Peterson
Dykes
Wagon
Armit
Morris - I used to rate this guy, but the penalties he gives away are alarming. He doesn't break the line anymore either.

I'll stop at five because I'm sure you'd like to add a few more.

Remember, before you get a new kitchen, first you have to make a terrible mess. I'm ready for the mess.

Armit didn't even play last night! Give the bloke a fair go he's a junior and still quite young. The others you mentioned can hold their heads in shame...

Armit has been playing really well! its Vella that should get the sack! Never puts himself infront of opposition forwards!

How could I have forgotten Vella from my list.

Point taken about Armit. Haven't seen enough to make a call on him yet.

Wagon busts a gut for the Eels everytime he plays.. Check out the tackle counts
Petersen at least gives 100% effort.

Are you serious? Check out the missed tackle counts! And the 'penalties conceeded' count! Wagon is a thick player who rushes out of the line. Is too small and shirks his attacking responsibilities of hitting the ball up. He's too physically weak to play as a forward and gets dominated just about every time he plays the ball.

I agree about Peterson - good enough at what he does and is busting his hump!

Morris has been about our best player this year and has busted the line plenty!
Vella has been playing pretty good footy in the pack, sadly nobody else backs him up!
Justin Tsoulos is an absolute beast - I am thrilled with his progress and he will be a mainstay in this pack for years!

I agree with u about morris, vella & tsoulous, oldmancraigy.

Back on the topic of Armit - I rate him, haven't seen too much of him so far this season, but he just needs to get back on track & develop a bit more. He's very young & has potential.

You don't miss any of the tackles you don't go for..
Daniel puts his body on the line week in week ou. I hate his attack (non existent) but he does the defensive work of two people.

ARMITT IS AN AWSESOME ATHLETE WHO HITS HARD AND RUNS HARD AND IS A TERRIFIC DOWN TO EARTH PERSONALITY WHO HAS PLAYED GREAT WITH COMPOSURE AND LEADRESHIP AS ONE SO YOUNG.
NO WAY COULD WE LET ANOTHER CLUB GET HIM AS I KNOW CANBERRA AND MELBOURNE AND THE BULLDOGS WERE SNIFFING FOR HIM LAST YEAR.
jUST WATCH HIM CLOSE AND YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY IMPRESSED-HE IS AWSESOME WHEN HE RUNS AND TACKLES.

WAGON IS NO FIRST GRADER.VELLA HAS NO NATURAL AGGRESSION AND HUNGER, WHILE OUR COACH IS SCIENTIFIC IN THIS PHYSICAL AND AGGRESSIVE GAME- OVERCOACHES AND STOPS CREATIVITY AND AGGRESSION AND NATURAL TEAM PLAY -TOO TECHNICAL AND PLAYERS THINK TOO MUCH OUT THERE INSTEAD OF SIMPLE HARD, AGGRESSIVE AND SHARP PLAY .

!

For all Daniel Wagon's faults, defence is not one of them. He constantly makes 30 tackles a match, 45 I think he made on Friday night. Some of his defensive hits are the best in the game, it's just his lack of creativity with the football that lets him down. It's Smith's decision to play him as a 5'8th.

The best defensive player we have IMO is Tslsous, he was brillant against the Saints, great potential with this youngster.

Armit is a great athlete.

Was Widders just pathetic or what??....he'd make Henry Raymond look good.

That was the worst game i've ever seen Widders play. The stats say it all, 15 hitups for 68 metres gained. That's 4.5 metres per hitup. Steve Crouch could have done better.

If only Tsolous made holding onto the ball more securely one of his top priorities in hit ups then he'd rate more highly.

Fitzgerald although set in his ways knows how to run the financial side of things. I think it would be a risk to let him go.
