"With my career now over on behalf of my family I want to thank the supporters of the Manly Sea Eagles for their support during my career with the greatest club in the world.

I bear no bitterness towards the club for terminating my contract - they had no choice to do what they did.

I knew before I went to the judiciary that my career was over but I was still given the best of legal advice through Alan Sullivan QC and my coach Des Hasler gave me great support.

The Manly club were fantastic in their support.

I want to make it clear that I don't want to go to England to play and I don't want to play with any other club.

My career is over and I have come to terms with that.My life now will revolve around my beautiful wife Brenda and my eight children.

I have asked for this space to be made available so I can - on behalf of my mother Mele and my family - to thank Manly fans for the kind messages during the many turbelent times in my career.

I promise I never tried to maim Keith Galloway. It was simply a shoulder charge gone wrong. In a split second I messed it up and I thank God he isn't badly injured.

People are predicting I will play again.I won't - if I can't play with the club I love then I won't play.

I left once and that was enough.I may have had other colours on for a while but my heart was always with Manly.I have played for Manly for NSW and for Australia and I'm proud of that.

Please don't feel sorry for me.I am now prepared for retirement with a clear mind and proud that I will always be welcome at the Manly club.

I would also like to thank my team mates who have been with me through the good and bad times. My best wishes go to Manly for what I know will be a successful season.....I'll be at Brookie cheeering them on.Thank You."

Hoppa victim ready for Sharks return
By Paul kent
April 14, 2005

KEITH Galloway walked off the training paddock yesterday and was relieved to feel ... nothing.

No headaches, no dizziness, no nausea, and, finally, no worries.

It has been 25 days since Galloway was slugged by Manly's John Hopoate - an illegal hit that cost Hopoate his career - and only in this past week has Galloway cleared up enough to be able to walk off at the finish of a training session.

The return to health has eased the knot in Galloway, who not only had to deal with the symptoms of the concussion but with the unknown stress that all brain injuries bring.

If there is one thing for sure about brain injuries it is that you can never be certain.

"I've never experienced concussion before so I wasn't sure what it was," Galloway said. "The doctor said that was part of having concussion and once he said that I felt a bit better about it."

While Galloway rested initially after the injury, giving himself what he thought was sufficient time to heal, he was soon back on the training paddock.

Yet his body failed to hold up. As the pressure went on at training and the blood pressure went up Galloway found his brain screaming for peace.

"I trained really hard when I first came back," he said, "and I started getting headaches."

He spoke to Cronulla doctor Peter Malouf and learned it was not uncommon for such a severe brain injury. He was somewhat content, but still ...

"I think deep, deep, deep down Keith had a concern that everything might not be right," said coach Stuart Raper, who also had his own concerns.

"I know it was different circumstances but I was there when Adam Ritson started his career and saw what happened to him and it worries when you see that type of thing happen."
His brain still recovering, Galloway was forced to rest as the club ran more tests to see if any permanent damage had occurred.

"He has had an extended problem with delayed concussion," said Malouf, who said he became so concerned with Galloway's continuing problems that he sent him away for X-rays, CAT scans, MRI scans, EEGs, psychosomatic testing and even a visit to a neurologist.

The news came back all good.

"There are no signs of any abnormalities," Malouf said. "Not in any of the tests. But you can still have non-specific problems that don't show up on any of those things."

Raper said Galloway would more than likely be brought back through Premier League given the Sharks have the bye this week before meeting Brisbane on Saturday week. It will be some five weeks since his last game.

"That's cool," Galloway said.

"The boys are playing really good there and it's up to me to work hard and get my place back."

Raper's concern finally started to ease down yesterday.

"Today was probably the biggest hit-out and he has come through without a headache and he's ready to go," the coach said.

"As late as last week he was still getting headaches and a bit dizzy after training.

"The doctor said this can be a normal thing through the concussion aspect, like a car crash or something like that.

"That showed the severity of it because it took three to four weeks to get normal again."

Hope Hoppa is happy about this.
Bloody thug.
Galloway should have him charged with assault.
I don't feel sorry for Hopoate
Goodbye and good ridance.
