I have never shied away from the controversial issues, and although i will undoubtedly cop it for this, im prepared to write it up....
OK, i know i will receive a fair amount of flack for this but i believe it is a good idea. Rugby League in America is established in the New York/New Jersey area. They have attracted reasonable crowds, and i feel that with a little bit of a kick-on, the game could prosper, at least in those areas...My answer?? Seek promotion with wrestling!
OK..allow me to justify. The worlds largest wrestling organsiation (World Wrestling Federation) is located in New York. This 'form of entertainment' has a huge following in this area. Regular TV figures suggest that up to 6 million people tune into a weekly wrestling program every week. More importantly, this 'form of entertainment' has a huge following amongst kids. They would obviously be the future of the sport in America, and i think advertising through a wrestling program may be a smart move
Advertising during a wrestling program in not exactly expensive at the moment. Many large corporations have shied away from advertising during wrestling, and on any regular program you will usually see some small 2bob companies advertising. The point is, perhaps the WWF is the vehicle through which league can be successfully advertised. There are strong links between wrestling and gridiron, as was evidenced by the WWF's recent attempt to start up a gridiron competition (XFL)...im not suggesting that the WWF should do the same thing with league, although it is quite clear that alot of wrestling fans watch gridiron. Consequently, gridiron has links to rugby league, which is what we are trying to advertise here!!
I would be interested in what people think, perhaps this could just be the thing that gives rugby league a foothold in at least one section of the american community.....
