Players to be trained for crises
By Steve Ricketts
March 6, 2004
AT least six senior players at each of the NRL's 15 clubs will undergo leadership and mentoring programs aimed at guiding young players in the wake of the Bulldogs crisis that has clouded the build-up to the season kick-off next weekend.
The NRL Board yesterday accepted recommendations from its education and welfare committee aimed at beefing up the code's player-education initiatives.
All officials and coaches will be required to attend NRL education courses relating to community standards, racial vilification, sexual discrimination and harassment. An expert in gender studies, Professor Catherine Lumby, will act as an adviser to the game.
