A suggestion

Guys, I am open to any suggestion on improving this board so feel free to fire away. One suggestion I have is to have a specified meeting time on this board maybe once a week and utilise the chat room for faster and real time responses. I downloaded it on my home pc today and I took about a minute. It actually looks like a pretty good chat room. Posting on the messageboard is still fine and still the easiest way to postbut if most of us are here at the same timeand are all reasonably quick thinkers the chat room could add another dimension to this site and would make for very lively discussion.

Remember, it's only a suggestion.

Ozbash, I see you have stirred up somewhat of a hornets nest on WORL with your departing post. Some were sad to see you go and others not so sad and poor old MFC is trying to douse the flames on a lot of built up aggression that has suddenly erupted. Poor bugger. MFC that is.

Yes I was just reading the same thing. Poor guy thinks the sky is falling in.
But you're right, he'll be OK.

I admire his courage and what he stands for but the poor bugger is still copping abuse, most of it about his name.

I have made another improvement to the front page. I have put a link to view all topics on the front page to make it much more user friendly so you can bypass a couple of steps and come straight into the messageboard as one view.

I once enjoyed WORL but for the reasons that have already been shouted to the masses can no longer stomach going there to often. I hope this board can stay a healthy place of chat & seeing the people that are already here you couldnt have asked for a better start. That chat room thing sounds good, just be sure & highlight a time to be there.

I thought I would let the members decide what is an appropriate time. Obviously later in the evening EST would draw the most people but I still want to leave the option open for everyone. My thoughts are to have the forum as a post mortem on the weekends games which would mean either a monday or tuesday while the games are still fresh in everybodys minds and hopefully we can have Gav participate to give a post mortem on the ESL which I would find useful. What does everyone think about that idea?

Cheer up old man i'm here to stay and you won't get rid of me.

I think the problem with the WORL was that it got too big and the quality of the posts dropped. It took me longer and longer to find various discussions and sometimes I gave up only to discover later that I'd been answered. It kind of defeated the purpose of having a 'discussion'.
I know it's the aim to have a successful forum but as they say in the classics, big doesn't always mean good.
I guess there's nothing we can really do about that but maybe someone can come with a way of keeping LWOS at a 'controllable level'... I have no idea what that means. :)

Something I have noticed. Since Ninemsn made changes to the discussion groups with the pop windows and so on, we have lost a few of the features.

I used to be able to see all the posts I had last looked at because their subject lines were no longer in bold print. Now when I make a post, like this one I'm doing right now, all the subject lines go back to bold. Does this happen to everyone else?
I'm using IE because it had this feature (Netscape didn't work well enough). Perhaps it's just my browser but I'm curious to hear if it's the case with everyone.

One more petty item... what happened to the emot-icons? We should tell the web designers at Ninemsn that they have left a few loose ends unchecked with their new design.

Willow the bold lettering problem is easily explained and solved.
You may notice that when you go to the all messages section that the dragons section is highlighted on the side menu, so the stupid thing thinks your in the dragons section even though you are actually in the all messages, this is the same for the WORL but its the parramatta section for that.
When you go into a topic and put a post on it, and then go back it takes you into whatever section that certain post was posted in, so all you need to do is go back to the all messages section and the bold will be gone and you will know what posts you've read.

Thanks for that Bronco but I that's the case with me.

I actually return to the All Topics (aka All Messages) section and the bold script has been re-generated for all posts above the one I actually contributed to. It's as if it has gone to the top and bolded any other post it passes over, if you know what I mean.

I might contact Ninemsn and see if they have an answer. It could be a problem with my browser. I'll ask them about the emot-icons while I'm at it.

Bronco, I have to say this, you got me thinking about how to tackle this problem. It's all to with the way how you navigate through the forum
All I have to do is to 'back space' after making a contribution. If I hit the 'All Topics' link at the top of the page then everything goes back to bold.

This is the solution for me: In order to return to the All Tpoics section and still know which posts I have last visited, I must remember to 'back space' (perhaps twice) after making a post.
Here we go again...back to the top....:)

Great to see you using that grey matter.
I never actually use the all topics link down the bottom but rather use the one from my favourites. It stops the problem of the problem of the bold lettering. MSN really can be a pain in the neck.

Well people have we set a time for the chat room in concrete yet? I'd really love to see it being used, with the small loyal bunch of posters on this forum it would be great.

Cheers

What's good about this forum is that we can once again see when the message was posted. Back on WORL it's so big with so many topics discussing the same thing, in your efforts to try and work out which thread is which you find it impossible.

Good Luck with this breakaway, it kind of feels like some Carribean getaway for posters.

Cheers.
