Sol Bellear passed away this week. Aged 66.

He was graded for South Sydney and served as a Director of the Club. He was also a manager of the Indigenous Dreamtime team.

In the 1970s, Sol was the first Chair of the Aboriginal Legal Service in Redfern, thus creating new foundation for the battlers in the inner-city community. In 1999, Sol was awarded the Order of Australia.

His love for Rugby League led to him being a mentor for many young players.

A few notes from the media:

Sol Bellear, a Bundjalung man from Mullumbimby in New South Wales, will be remembered for helping to establish Aboriginal medical, housing, land rights and legal services and fighting for reform his whole life.

“Sol never lost that passion for the game and was a key figure in the success of the Koori knockout tournament,”
