A try is worth...

An idea on how to reward more exciting play is to introduce a few rules about the value of tries in international rule games.

Standard 4 point try - Any try scored with less than 3 passes for that play or that involves a kick (no kick at goal is awarded)

Special 4 point try - Any try scored with 3-8 passes for that play and that does not involve a kick (kick at goal is awarded)

5 point try - Any try scored with 9 or more passes for that play and that does not involve a kick (kick at goal is awarded)

What is everyones thought on this idea?

i dont like those ones mate
but what about a five point try for running it on the last i hate trys off kicks.
or five points from scoring from within ure own 40 metres, that would do the same as what ure suggesting and god could u imagine a team down by 6 with a minute to go inside their own 40 there would be some thrilling action there.

I dont like this idea mate. Its just to complicated to be put into practice.

When your watch a sport....ANY sport, you want to see a "Score" and know immediatly how much it was for.

Still...its good that idea like this are put forward so that the evolution of the game continues.

I reckon a try that has gone 'through the hands' should be 5 points and any try that is scored off a kick within the defending sides 20 metres is only worth 4 points.

A try scored off a kick is a real lottery and I don't reckon it should be worth as much as a REAL try.

Adjustment

4 point Standard - Try off a kick (no kick at goal)
4 point special - Try without a kick (kick at goal)
5 point - Try that starts from within own 40 m zone.

Just change the points awarded for winning a game. Like Super 12 with bonus points etc. Maybe teams won't give in as much if they know that they can still get some points for a loss.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

as for the view tries off kicks arent skill, what about Slaters in Origin?

As Bozo said on the radio when someone rang up a while back, "maybe we should give teams 20 points if they score from the kickoff"

The only thing that should be done is increase the points for tries overall i dont think people are that fussed how they score, fine they want some flashy ties. However by increasing the points you get for tries it will encourage flashy play. Either that or cut the 2 points, for a penalty kick. I dont like a lot of tinkering but it's one of the major things that needs to be fixed.

Slater kicked the ball outside the 20m zone, so thats cool, 5 point try.

If the balls kicked within the opponents 20m then its only 4 points.

Its not like people will never try the kick into the in-goal area, they just may decide to chance their arm and spin it wide.

When it comes down to it, if you spread the ball wide and score in the corner, it may be worth 5 poitns, but you may not convert the try, so you may decide to roll the ball in-goal, take a 4 point try(under the posts) and convert it for 6.

It takes a little bit more thinking and will get rid of a lot of the robots we have playing the game now....

Just my 2 cents.

What about a try that is scored off a kick from with their own 40? 4points or 5? Plus we would have video descions for good tries just to check were they started. I say no.

5 Points.
I just said, if the ball is kicked within the defending teams 20m, as in, you're attaching an opponents goal line and you're within 20m then its a 4 point try. Anywhere else on the field, 5 points. Sheesh.... :D
I know this rule will probaly take about 10 years to get it, but you saw it here first...

Try that results from a kick on tackles 4 or 5 - 4 point but no kick at goal

Try that doesn't result from a kick or kick on earlier tackle - 4 points and kick at goal.

Try started from within own 40 metre zone (easy for a ref to see where the play the ball is) - 5 points and kick at goal.

Penalty tries are automatically 5 point tries.

It wouldnt work. If two players broke down the field they could pass the ball back and forth a few times to make sure they got the bonus points.

What is a try from a kick? There would bea huge grey area and the rule would be impractical.

What if a player drops the ball, and an opposition player toes the ball ahead and scores?

What if a bomb goes up, and in the next play (not the same play) a try is scored?

What if a penalty kick hits the post and someone catches the ricochet and scores?

What if the ball is kicked, the fullback fumbles and a chaser scores?

These are all examples of when the ball is kicked, but it is debatable whether it would be a full-points try or a reduced-points try.
