ABC Radio or TV must broadcast NSW Cup games next season

It's about time the various RL bodies got serious about promoting this competition and searching for some sort of decent mainstream coverage must be the first step.

How good would it have been to see the mighty Jets running around today with Minichiello running amok at the back. ABC Tv would certainly get better ratings than for the local rah rah rubbish they usually show. ABC Radio would most definitely attract more listeners for a RL talkback show on a Sat arvo, encompassing a NSW Cup call than the AFL crap.

both thanks.

i hear the clubs have stuck it up the nswrl about their incompetence and are taking the lead on getting the nsw cup better organised and abc are what they want. good luck to them.

also heard that jim beam are gone for next year with another spirit company closely related to a queensland town, leather patches and big white bears to take their spot. it's amazing the league can get good sponsors for the third level comp, but don't make the same effort for the higher comp.

For as long as I've been following the NSW Cup it's been a pipe dream to have it shown on the ABC, I'd love for it to be on the ABC but I just can't see the NSWRL doing anything about it. They usually come up with something to do with NRL contracted players not being allowed to be shown on another station, except of course for the Qld Cup....

I hate to say it but the ABC/NSWRL/NRL don't give a f*ck about us NSWRL fans and think it's OK for a highlights show on Fox is enough...

Guess it'd be up to us as fans to show all the relevant parties that we were serious about getting the NSW Cup on the box rather than waiting for the NSWRL to actually do anything about it?

make it clear to your club what you want them to do. they've started the ball rolling but pressure from their fans will keep them going. put it in writing.

The NSWRU actually pays the ABC to broadcast the Shute Shield, that's the benefit because the ABC would have to pay to show League.

I remember that the ABC and the NSWRL were in talks a few years ago about broadcasting Reserve Grade on TV, but the NRL torpedoed the idea, using some excuse that the ABC wouldn't be able to show top 25 contracted players at each club. Why then the Qld Cup gets away with it I don't know. Double standards I guess.

There is no real problem with getting it on TV apart from NSWRL finding the cash.

There is absolutely no chance of NSW Cup being broadcast on ABC radio. The AFL has the timeslot well and truly locked away. The NSWRL would have to come up some amazing data to convince the ABC to change its mind even if it can. The AFL contract is locked away for another couple of years I think.

As for TV I think you'll find there were discussions this season but no agreement could be reached.

If the NRL brought back Saturday arvo football next season it would be ta ta AFL on ABC Radio in NSW.
