Watson's bowling average is doing what his batting average should and his batting average is doing what his bowling average should

And scored the same amount of centuries as Watto in less games

very true

Matthews: 4 centuries from 33 tests at an average of 41.09
Watson: 4 centuries from 53 tests at an average of 36.02

Also, Matthews batted most of the time at 6 and 7 and played against better bowling lineups and less batter-friendly pitches during his era (1983-93), compared to Watson who has batted as either opener or 3 since making his way back into the test team during the 2009 Ashes, and played against weaker bowling lineups and flatter pitches. Hence Matthews had less opportunities for centuries.

I would've really loved to have seen how Watson would've went against all those great West Indian fast bowlers on pitches that Matthews had to face, rather than flat-tracks like Adelaide: Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Marshall, Holding etc. Watson would probably have retired hurt (hurt from a bruised ego) before he faced a single ball from them

also, why doesn't Nathan Lyon bowl around the wicket a bit more to the right-handers? He did it in the Ashes last year with more success

Bit of turn and bounce here for Lyon by the sounds of it. Really need him to convert this into more wickets.

Lyon has always been like this. Spells where he's looked completely useless, and spells where he's looked really really dangerous. For one reason or another though, he can't seem to take a bag of wickets to turn a game during his dangerous spells like the top quality spinners...
