Mate I watched some of this… only like the 2nd time I’ve seen AEW…

I was straight tripping to see an actual kiwi doing wrestling… 😂😂

never heard of the bloke in my life but he looked pretty bloody good… although that ending looked botched… 😂😂

I don’t think I’ve seen a kiwi in wrestling since the bushwhackers…. 😂😂
That's awesome, Jay White is one of the best wrestler's in the world and if you get the opportunity you should check him out on NJPW PPV.

He's come a long way. I remember watching him in ROH about six years ago and they treated him like a nobody. Even then his fundamentals looked good and while it took time he's really developed his personality and is one of the best heels in the business.

He hasn't really had an opportunity in the US but he's been killing it in NJPW the past five years or so.

They also have another Kiwi in Toa Henare and a Tongan in Bad Luck Fale who attended De La Salle College. They're not as talented as White, in fact Fale is your typical hoss wrestler but New Zealand really is well represented in NJPW.

Toni Storm who challenged for the women's championship was also born in Auckland but like a typical Queenslander represents the Gold Coast.

I don’t know a lot about AEW or the backstage stuff… I wouldn’t be able to tell you who the young bucks, omega, hangman page & colt cabana are if they all stood infront of me…

but i do see the odd clip here and there… and the MJF stuff always catches my eye… I’ve never even see the dude wrestle but the dude is blurring the f**k out of the lines… almost like Scott Hall and Kevin Nash did in the early days of the NWO.

i do though get some heavy back end of WCW vibes with AEW in that the lunatics seem to be running the asylum and these jokers may be out of business in a year or two…

that’s my admittedly outside impression of it all…

So Grand Slam is coming to Brisbane in February 2025.

Is anyone planning on going to the show? This was the last thing on my mind, but if tickets are reasonable I'll go and make a day of it. It would have to be the biggest Pro Wrestling event in the history of Brisbane so that alone makes it appealing. Being able to potentially see the likes of Danielson, Copeland, Okada, Ospreay, Omega, Jericho, Cole, O'Reilly etc. for the first time after watching them for years would be the other draw.

Grand Slam changing venues to Brisbane Entertainment Centre. That's 41,000 fixed seat difference. Larger again for ground floor seats difference between Suncorp and BEC. Pretty funny imo, that company had all the potential in the world and TK fumbled it so bad. They'll be flat out selling out BEC.

Company was started from nothing & is now the second most profitable in the history of the sport. Presenting it any other way is coping.

I’m shocked they can’t fill suncorp. I get their product isn’t as hot as it was a few years ago but in a country that is hot for wrestling I figured it would be full.

Would love to know what ratings they get out here.

A coworker told me (I don't know his source but he is like super fan, on the dirt sheets and follows all the coverage and news and all that) their highest rating on ESPN in Australia is about 20,000.

Edit: quick google search revealed this as top result.
A couple of paragraphs down it discusses aew ratings in Australia and states 20,000 was their highest on one occasion.

Don't think this country is hot for wrestling. There's been no significant scene here since the 1970's. Most wrestling fans around the world can be classed really as WWE fans. They have little knowledge of outside companies.

We have a handful in WWE and AEW. Plus NJPW. PWA is doing great things and has a buzz. James graham's match the other week with Grayson's return was cool. WWE has had sellout tours here for over two decades now. World Series Wrestling does 2 tours a year that are sold out in small venues.

The Perth PPV from WWE this year was so bad and drew like 40k plus in an isolated location. Brisbane has never had a PPV so I figured AEW coulda grabbed some WWE diehards. AEW diehards as small as they would be would travel.

If they have sold 10k tickets and it is a sellout already with 2-3 months to promote they have f**ked up by downgrading. But they picked Brisbane where it is all or nothing I guess. Sydney or Melb could have got you 20k.

20k highest rating on ESPN I'd love to understand more. What does a normal Wed/Thurs/Friday NBA mid day get? Does that include replays? I dunno how it lands but 20k feels super low for ESPN. But how many have foxtel/kayo? Interesting none the less.
