AFC West strongest division in 20 years?

The only comparison would be the NFC East of the mid to late 90's IMO.

KC, Oakland and Denver are all looking very strong with the Chargers losing two last second thrillers although I think they are almost done, having both losses against AFC rivals and one a division rival.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on which divisions have been better in the last 20-25 years. I will concede the NFC East of years gone by was exceptionally strong but I can't think of any other division that would come close.

TBH... I've been quite bullish about the AFC West for a few years now...

But I think as it pertains to this season it's probably too early to have any strong ideas 2 games into the season...

KC are probably the surest bet to be good based on what they have done...

But I really don't know how to read our form because I'm not really sure how good the Titans really are... and the Jets are pretty much tanking.

The Broncos have had 2 really strong wins against 2 good teams... including a division rival...

But even then... we haven't seen them away from Mile High yet...

And the Chargers are well... ultra competitive against anyone but just don't seem to know how to win.

It's probably a weak move... but even if we beat the Skins in Washington next week... i don't think I'll be able to make a serious judgement until after week 4 when we visit Mile High...

Why do people care? You should be death-riding your divisional rivals, not cheering them on in some imaginary divisional challenge.

As far as I'm concerned; the Packers, Bears and Lions are the three worst teams in the NFL (obviously I'm ignoring the fact that the Jets exist).

a team from the nfc east won the superbowl 7 times out of 10 from 1987 to 1996.

now i know it doesn't mean they had the best division but it's a pretty impressive feat.

Because American football is all about being the best of the best and I personally want the Bucs to be the Champions of a division of Champions; rather than the Champions of a bunch of no hopers.

Exactly. If Denver wins the west this year they will be battle hardened and it would be an impressive achievement. NE gets an armchair ride every year in a pissweak division and strength of schedule is actually part of the tiebreaking procedure in the NFL.

You have gone the early crow here, the NFC West the year Arizona missed the playoffs with a 11-5 record is still stronger at this stage IMO.

TBH I don't think 3 teams from the AFC West will make it, only the 2. The AFC North plays the horrible AFC South this year so I think Baltimore or Pittsburgh pick up a wildcard.

Celebrating winning a division is one step away from framing a participation ribbon you get from a fun run.

Obviously you want to win everything, my comment is more directed at the teams who hang banners celebrating a divisional win. It's just sad.

I think it's an achievement worth noting. Maybe not banner worthy, but there has to be some sort of recognition.

The aim of every team is to win their division. That's the beauty of having divisions. It's a means to an end but you better believe each team revels in winning their division.

Winning the division means a first round bye and home field advantage in the divisional round of the playoffs or at worst home field advantage in the wildcard round.

It's all about chasing those rings first and foremost...

But crushing your divisional rival is certainly a worthwhile means to an end on your way to your ultimate goal.
