Hmm I think most of us admitted we were pleasantly suprised by that 1 game..... I still don't want him anywhere near the number 7, and not here next year. 'Even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while'

One swallow doesn't make a spring.

Even great players have an off game now and then, and likewise someone who hasn't shown the form they promised can have a great game from time to time. It'll take another few brilliant games against the Warriors, Sharks & Dogs for me to return to being a "Drew Believer" - his performances this year have hurt us too many times.

Here's hoping that bringing him off the bench is the answer - he was good in City/Country off the bench, likewise last week against Manly.

Lets see how many one liners we can come up with - "one milked cow doesn't make a milk float" - I just came up with that, unless its been with me subliminally for years???

Even the sun shines on a dog's arse some days. (white men can't jump - for all you playing at home)

Rock, I thought he was crap when we bought him, he has gone downhill from there. I will never change my view on him. He is a wally who probably would struggle at the Valley Statesmen.

He is ugly too.

I, for one, would like to know what he did last Saturday that was so fantastic.

Sure he ran the ball a little bit more and he did manage to only miss 5 tackles instead of the usual 10.
But there will still several glaring errors in his game that I'm afraid regular, quality 1st graders don't make.

His first touch of the ball when he came on was one of those grubbers straight into the legs of the opposition that he and Marty seem to have made an artform.
There was at least 2 mid-field bombs.
And that 'flick pass' was nothing more than an average player doubting his ability to get across the line and throwing a speculator out the back to nobody. If that pass had've gone over the sideline, you blokes would still be bagging him.

Fair dinkum, I've held my tongue over the last few months watching some of you go from hailing Drew as the messiah to calling for his contract to be torn up.
But this is ridiculous.
Surely you can see him for what he is. An average player, playing average football. When he's good, he's tolerable. And more often than not, when he's bad, he's terrible.

He shouldn't have been signed in the first place.
There was no room in the side for him last year and this year, a promising local junior had to be sacrificed to make room for him in a position that he simply can't play.

I don't blame Brad Drew - he is what he is and he's acheived a lot more in Rugby League than a lot of people including myself.
But the Canberra Raiders admin and coaching staff really do have to take a good hard look at their procedures when it comes to recruitment.

The current situation with J Monas and Ruben has got me a little perplexed.
Surely every effort and resource should have gone into securing Joel's long term signature. Didn't they watch him play last year? Couldn't they see his potential? Why not get in his ear early and make him an offer he couldn't refuse.
And as for Ruben - simple. Do whatever has to be done. Sell Hawkins' kidneys, clean out The Lodge and move him in, get him a job selling guitars at Pro Audio for 300 grand a year. Just do something.

So, anyway where was I?

Oh yeah. So please, make up your mind about Brad will ya?
If you think he's great, fine. Knock yourself out. Just be consistent.

I think you're being a little harsh, mate. Drew is not an average player. And he did play well on Saturday. Can't you recognise a player when they play well? Some of you blokes bag Drew purely on the fact that he is Brad Drew.

As I admitted earlier, he did have a good game on Saturday night. And it probably looked even better when you compare it to his performances earlier in the season. The real test is going to be whether he can keep it up though.

We play the bulldogs in Rnd 15, we can't afford for him to play as he did up until Round 10.

Being harsh and telling the truth often go hand in hand Azz.

I can recognize good players. Good players play to the best of their ability every week. Good players aren't on the verge of being dropped every week. Good players don't get recognized just because they have one average game after 10 shockers.

As for bagging Brad for being Brad. That makes absolutely no sense.
Why would anyone do that?
I'm reliably informed that he's a great bloke and a good team man but Brad gets bagged because he's a very average footballer.

YES. This is what I have been going on about for a while. Tell it like it is, regardless of whether it is harsh. That is the reality of being a professional sportman. I agree with everything you have said Frank, and I was one of the first ones to say Brad went well on Saturday night. It is still a case that when the forwards are getting on top and the backs have space, Brad Drew then becomes a good footballer. When he has no time, which is what you don't get against the top sides, he is tripe. Therefore, we can't win bugger all with him around because on the final day of the season we won't be playing Souths, Manly or Parramatta.

It's great to see you so positive Woodgers, I hope we play on the final day of the season too (I assume you mean the grand final).

But if it all turns to poo, the last day of our season will be against souths...round 26!

PS. One shower doesn't mean its the end of the drought.

I think that Drew is finally going to pay dividends for the raiders. I think some of you baggers have forgotten how good he really is. He didn't just have a good game on saturday, he had a "spectacular" game. I can honestly say I haven't seen such exiting play from the raiders since the Stuart and Mullins day of 94/95. You guys will see, this will be a big turn around for him. Mix him with an inform Mclinden and you get a McNugget, so go you McNuggets!!!
