According to the draw ( http://f7s.leagueunlimited.com/draw2004.asp ), we have three rep matches coming up...

Rep Game 1 - 23rd May - 2nd June
Rep Game 2 - 20th June - 30th June
Rep Game 3 - 18th July - 28th July

They have been staggered so they don't interfer with club matches.

We deliberately left the nature of the rep games open for discussion.

We have the option of their being a variety of formats, eg: NSW v QLD, Australia v NZ, Aust v GB, NZ v GB, Anzacs v Rest of the World... etc.

IMO, anyone can put their hand up for any rep availability depending on where they think their allegiances lie. It doesn't have to be where you live.

But before we can start, we have to work out the formats. What sort of rep games should we have?

we should save the internationals, and have a tri-series after the grand final.

Australia, new zealand and a rest of the world team.

OK. sounds good. What about the three rep matches coming up?

City v Country?

Three NSW v QLD matches?

City v county
NSW v Queensland
Australia v New Zealand

With the internationals playing later in the year.

Unless you want

City v Country
NSW v Queensland
Anzacs v Rest of the World, and then have the tri - series later.

or only have two rep games, city country and NSW v QLD and then save the last one as a bye for all teams.

Have the tri - series later on.

Just a suggestion, but why not have 3 rep games in each of the 3 weeks?

I would suggest that the sides be selected for Australia vs ROTW first, then anyone that doesn't get selected, plays in a SOO match, and anyone that misses out on that, plays in a City vs Country. All matches would be 7 on 7 (+ 3 reserves), making it 60 players involved for each of the 3 weeks. Between the 3 rep game weeks, some players may move up from SOO to international, or down to City vs Country, etc.

Anyway, just a thought which I think has a few things going for it.

I was just wondering how do you get chosen to play rep F7s? I suppose its similar to the NRL; whose playing the best and playing well consistantly. Who chooses the teams?

Wal, there'll eventually be a thread where the captain will ask for interested forummers to come forward.

The selection process hinges on the captains. Last year we had one City v Country rep match. Two-non playing participants selected the two captains. It was fairly easy that way. After that the skippers just selected their teams from the players who put up their hands.

I guess we could have a poll to decide who the skippers are but this has the potential to turn into shambles and sounds like extra work.

e2w. I like the idea of having 3 matches in each of the 3 rep rounds.
But the only problem with this is that it will stretch the playing pool to its limit and may fall flat on its face. Not everyone wants to be in a rep team and will see the rep games as a chance to refresh themselves. It happened last year in the one-off City v Country match when we had less players.

Currently, I'm favouring Big Mick's idea of having one match each rep round... say, City v Country + NSW v QLD + Australia v ROTW
If people wish to organise 'curtain raisers' from those not selected then I'm all for it.

...and then a tri-series Aust v NZ v GB after the grand final.

I would also like to organise a short knock-out comp later in the year for the emerging teams but thats for another discussion.

If Big Micks/Willows proposal is the goer, would I be ineligible for City/Country and NSW/QLD selection because I should like to represent New Zealand for international honours if chosen?

I can't see any reason why you be tied to the real world. As the title of the thread says, it comes down where your allegiances lie.
For example, I might live in Qld but I lived most of life in Sydney, so I'm City and and NSW as far I'm concerned.

The City v Country matches can apply to any city and any country imo. If you're a NZder who for some inexplicable reason barracks for Qld, then that's where your heart is, so you are a candidate for the Qld squad.
imo, it has to be this way because it would be impossible to police should we start trying to be serious about it.

Once we're sure there's a general concensus, we start up a thread called 'Rep Squads' (or something) and we ask forummers to declare their allegiances.
eg
City
NSW
Australia
Australia

Someone else might say:
Country
QLD
ROTW
NZ (or GB)
