AUSTRALIAN race driver in the U.S.-based big Nascar competition Marcos Ambrose is splitting from his team of five years there and is either set to join another Nascar team or will be "returning to Australia."
The Tasmanian is a two-time V8 Supercar Champion in Australia in Ford Falcons and has kept close ties and friendships with team leaders in the sport here, although he has strayed from the Ford camp, currently racing a Toyota in Nascar.
Ambrose has had five years with JTG Daugherty Racing. He began at the start of the 2006 season in the Nascar truck (ute) race division.
The following two years he was in the second-tier Nationwide Series and then moved full-time into Nascar's top Sprint Cup series.
He has won millions of dollars in prizemoney, secured two victories in Nationwide and a second-place in Sprint Cup, although bad luck has messed his run this year, with only two top-10 finishes from 20 starts so far.

"It has been a great five-year journey," Ambrose said today.
"I am proud of being their driver and what we have been able to accomplish together."
He said he would complete the 2010 season with JTG Daugherty with the same commitment to win, but after five years "it was time for a change."
Ambrose is well regarded in Nascar circles and popular with fans, and could well negotiate a move to another team.
"I would like to continue in Nascar and finish off what I started," he said.
"But I have not discounted returning to Australia."
