unlike RL, we are not under the illusion that there is an international presence of the game worthy of a world cup, although ours would be just as big, considering a lot of players have grandparents and whatnot all over the world, and would therefore qualify to play for those countries (under the same RL criteria of course).

and had many classic matches

Cook Islands V Lebanon

and many more

IIRC, theer was an AFL world cup held in melbourne last year. I think it was in August and was quite a low profile event as it involves non-pro national-based clubs. Although it was on the news for a couple of days
