I agree, his matches were slow and boring..hands down his best match was the hogan match.
Actually, Andre the Giant was a very good wrestler. Legend has it that he went for a 15 year unbeaten streak before losing to Hulk Hogan. Although i think that may have been slightly exagerated. He did lose feuds earlier in his career (I think that Red Basteen and killer Kowalski may have both won feuds against him and may have even bodyslammed him). Still, the friendly giant gimmick which Andre played, worked to a tee and was far better than the big show gimmick due largely to Andres charm, even though he could not really talk well enough to cut a promo.
To remember Andre from the Hogan Wrestlemania days does a disservice to the great man. Andre barely made that match and had to wear a specially designed back brace just to make it out. This is part of the reason why the match was not as spectacular as it could have been. Plus, he was about 200 pounds, literally, than Andre used to be when he was in his prime and he was known for launching aerial assaults on his opponent. Although i cant remember these matches too well, he deserves to be judged on these, just like Hogan, Flair, HBK etc deserve to be judged on matches in their prime.
I am not sure what matches would be on an Andre DVD, but i would suggest the following as a minimum.
Hogan - Andre I - Steel Cage Match in the AWA.
Hogan - Andre II - Wrestlemania III
Hogan - Andre III - The evil twin referee.
Haku/Andre vs Demolition - Andre's first Tag Team Title.
Battle Royal - Wrestlemania II
Andre vs Those two jobbers that he used to sit on in the end.
Andre vs Big John Studd - Body Slam Match.
As well as several earlier Andre the Giant Matches.
