It is probally his last major contract. Why not go. He has done it all, 2 premierships, test footy. Nothing more to achieve

He's only 26 probably got 4-5 solid years in him, but point is taken

Goes back to the point that what does he have to achieve? It is not as if he hasn't won a premiership and the likelyhood of him getting another one is slim anyway and if he goes to England now he gets more $$$, sensible move.

He signed a 3 year deal with Huddersfield, but the deal has a 2 year option in his favour. So if he finds himself unable to adjust to living in England after 1 year, he's free to leave his contract and come back to Australia. So we could see him playing here again in 2009

Luke Williamson also looks like heading offshore as manly look like they cant fit him under the salary cap

The kiwi's seem to head there alot younger than the aussies in general. Is it that they are attracted by the $$$, or the lower standard of competition??

Stupid comment that merely tries to support the poor administration of this game..bloke is in his league prime..mid 20s ..exciting player, tough and resilient..and yet we now give him off the poms so they can enjoy his talents. There cannot be too many more sports in the world that run their game as shabbily as this.

What do you expect. It is about running your roster effectively. Whatwira has achieved everything in the NRL- he probally feels he needs a challenge whether that be in the ESL or another code. I doubt it is just for money reasons alone.

no I'd say its the fact that Australia isn't home to the kiwis anyway so there is less holding them there in terms of family/friends than the aussies.

Whatuira had the opportunity to stay in Australia, fact is he asked for more than he was worth.

Players are getting way too greedy and it doesnt help when the ESL isnt controlling the clubs salary cap enough...

I was under the impression that Islanders and Maoris don't count toward ESL import quotas?

Correct, however with that rule changing next year we will probably see a lot coming home.

any way you look at it. all these kiwis heading over to england to play in what is a 2nd rate competition when you compare it to the NRL in terms of standard, cant be real good for International Footy. Several of the players that head there young were/are past or current international reps, whatuira being just another one of them.
