he must be playing busted, my memories of this bloke for manly and nsw are high work rate + fast driving middle of the field darts in bunches with strong leg drive, he's not doing any of these

Then why did we buy him because we thought we were a winning side?

Because he's a hard headed, incredibly experienced, rep back rower who works his ring off, coming in to a young and inexperienced pack....why would you expect him to be a match winner? He will save you a game if he can, and has done dozens of times in his career. He may even win you a close one in a side with halves that can use a hard running forward properly. But he's not going to make a trillion metres and he's not going to replace our lack of attacking spark.

He's also not working off a quality half, behind a dominant pack making big metres, winning the wrestle and creating a retreating defence. When was the last time the Eels did all of that at once?

I'm not debating that. He isn't earning his pay packet stats wise. But he's still trying his ring off in a side that's struggling....how do you propose he should magically turn the entire side around into a dominant force that allows him the space he enjoys against a struggling defensive line?

Exactly. He is not playing off someone who makes a good run and gets the defense on the back foot.

Fui did this and Paulo used to before he was injured.

I expected Watmough to play 80 mins and do all the stuff that HIndy used to do like make the hitup when no one else puts up their hands, clean up loose balls, tackle and tackle. Hindy was awesome at marker and since he left, no one has taken his role

Nobody thought that. Are you serious???

NOBODY thought that we'd get rid of The Plane and replace him in the Club with Watmough and we'd be a better team?

Well, how and why the f$%k did so many people predict we would make the Top 8 then with the only major change to the team being The Plane Out and Watmough In.

Why would we run 10th with The Plane and then suddenly make the Top 8 without him? The only fathomable reason is Watmough was going to be the difference.

I didn't think we'd make the Top 8, but I also wasn't expecting us to run last, but when I really look at it in hindsight we were always going to struggle not to run last without The Plane.

Just a note - you guys reckon changing players' attitudes happens overnight?

Watmough has played 10 games for us for three wins. Changing an attitude problem takes time.

Watmough has met my expectations. He was hardly outstanding in his last few years at Manly. But nevertheless he is a solid forward who has the potential to be a vital cog in our growing forward pack.
However, I will never understand why A) We were willing to pay so much for him and
B) Why we signed him on such a long contract.
I guess Brad Arthur was just trying to get jobs for his Manly boys, same reason as to why Ritchie was signed.

How do you know how much he's getting?

He came to Parra because we offered him an extra year, not because we were offering more money than Manly. And I think he's been good. Less minutes than last year (when he played Origin) but no less effective while on the field. And the other forwards are all playing a lot tougher this year.
