Hey everyone.
Im trying to help my mates son get some Harold matt trials for this year and he cant even get in the door for trials.

He is a decent player but hardly gets noticed, has contacted a few player managers and there reluctant to help and most have said they dont take on kids. He does all these extra programs and training at reputable rugby league training centres but looks like they mean jack shit when you apply.

Anyone got any tips or pathways on how to even get into the door for atleast trials, seems there is alot of talk on knowing the right people or sucking up to people, im not one to suck up but its not all that rosey in the rugby league circles.

Depends what area he is from? Has he made any junior dev squads the previous season? Highlights package?

Have you tried North Sydney they are one of the few still having trials.
Its a joke that kids at that age need a manager and you have probably approached the good ones that will not take on kids. It may very well the case that anyone that wants to take on a kid unknown at that age, should be avoided.

Playing devils advocate, you may have to be realistic too. It really depends on what and were the kid has been playing. If they have been playing third division in one of the combined comps then its really hard. I have seen plenty of kids and parents that think they are good enough but unfortunately they aren't

yep not going to name the district but he is in the under 16 development team, he plays winger and he said there are 7-8 wingers to even try get a spot and wants to keep his options at other districts

These trials are invitation only - If he is in the under 16 development squad then he must be considered a future player so just needs to work hard on his game and the opportunities will come.
