Anyone remeber a version of the 'blue oyster cult' classic 'dont fear the reaper' done by a New Zealand band ;the muttenbirds' about 8 years ago??

I remember I really like it when it was played on MMM back then and have since tried to both download it and once to order it in (the shops dont seem to stock it) but cant seem to get it.

Does anyone remember it? And if I cant download it, does anyone know where to sample it to see if it really was a good version or if memory decieves me before I buy it?

Yes, remember the Muttonbirds fondly.

Picked up their greatest hits CD (called Flock) cheaply while travelling through NZ 18 months ago. Best bet is NZ stores, like Thrash's one (above), but sorry don't know anywhere you can try before you buy...

They were (are?) a great band, I've got their first two albums which contain many a classic. "Don't Fear the Reaper" wasn't released on any of their albums, as far as I'm awre it was actually recorded for the soundtrack to "The Frighteners" (which was directed by Peter Jackson and starred Michael J. Fox). However it is available on two compilations, the abovementioned "Flock", which is their best of, or "The Too Hard Basket (B-Sides and Bastards)" which a compilation of B-sides and rarities. I'd probably go for "Flock" if you don't already own the albums as it contains a nice cross-section of their catalogue, especially the earlier stuff. If you want to get a copy your best bet would be to order online from NZ, try SmokeCDs (www.smokecds.com) or Real Groovy Records (www.realgroovy.co.nz) , both have it listed for sale and will ship to Australia.
