Dedicated to comps around the country.
Give us a heads up on how the local scene is going.

Wellington
Premiers
Wainuiomata 38 Def. Upper Hutt 14
Randwick 32 Def. Te Aroha 18
Porirua 48 Def. St George 22
University 82 Def. Petone 24

Points Table after 4 Rounds: Randwick 8, Wainuiomata 6, Porirua 6, Te Aroha 4, Upper Hutt 4, University 2, St George 2, Petone 0.

It must be noted that Petone; one of the founding teams in Wellington RL only confirmed that they could field a team a week before the comp started. It would have been a sad day has Petone had to drop out.

But Still...Go Upper Hutt

I have a bit of a liking for Halswell as they used to come up to New Plymouth every couple of years and play my local side up there the Bell Block Marist Dragons. Good To see they are still going strong.

Pretty sure Aaron Whittaker still has plenty to do with Halswell

I don't get out and watch as many games as I should, soft spot for the Keas as they were the 1st side I played for, Brent Todd the best player to come out of the club probably

Hornby are the defending champs

Was a great weekend for University upsetting Porirua.
Great game between animproving Petone and Upper Hutt. The scoreline did not really reflect what a good tight game it was. I watched that game and really enjoyed it.

Funny isn't it? You see more real passion from amateurs playing for pride then you do from highly paid professionals for whom it is a job.
I used to love it when overseas teams played Auckland at Carlaw Park and were taught the value of passion.

Just back from the game, Canterbury 34 beat Wellington 24

6 tries to 5 with the goal kicking of Baxendale extending the margin. Canterbury always looked the better side but Wellington took their chances to keep coming back

Canty got out to 12-0 early on before Wellington hit back with a try from a kick and then a 70m intercept got them back to 12-10. Canty then scored 2 more before the break to extend the lead to 24-10 at ht.

Welly came out firing and put on a great try just after the break and then capitalized on a Canty winger fumble to score in the corner and get the game back to 24-20. Then the player of the match stood up and killed the game, front rower Jay Pukepuke. His powerful runs beating a few players then slipping an offload away set up 2 great tries before a well rehearsed play on the final tackle where the 5/8 dummied the kick before popping a ball up to a charging Pukepuke who crashed over to score. Wellington scored a late consolation try to their winger Gregorious who scored 4 on the day

Wasnt too bad a game, no knuckle at all though which is a change for these games !!
