Hopefully that means Koukash is the owner that the NRL are in "advanced negotiations" with.

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/2515673/nrl-officials-fielding-offers-to-buy-knights/?cs=306 - this is another article about the sales status of the club and goes into a bit more detail about the finacial status, process, etc.

Interestingly I heard on the radio the other day that the club staff (as opposed to the players) have been asked to take a pay cut for next year to achieve $2 million in savings but i haven't seen anything else mentioned in the press on this...has anybody else seen/heard any reports on this?

I've heard that the NRL have pulled the purse strings by 2 million a year because they want us to learn to sustain ourselves on a smaller budget so we won't be too much of a financial burden for potential owners. Also said we've been asked to fill positions internally - although that doesn't explain Sandercock.

Whole thing reeks of encouraging mediocrity tbh.

NRL officials have been approached by ‘‘a series’’ of people interested in buying the Knights – even though the club’s next owner will have to be satisfied with only two seats on a seven-person board.

So who are the others?

The knights can only run in the black if we are privately owned.

Just hope the whole process doesn't drag on, it seems this club just continues to develop distraction after distraction for the players.

Another article. Looks like koukash is negotiating through dave smith and is looking at 1 of 3 clubs to buy.

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that the NRL is controlling us at the moment when there are teams like the tigers or sharks that could use a private owner more than what we could.

Our NRL admin could just reject koukash 'for the good of the game' so he goes for option 2 and buys the tigers.

I can see the NRL ruining this for us.

I put my hand up. Could only offer $500, but as soon as I started talking about how much I bleed red and blue they really started to take interest.

The NRL are running the Tigers as well I believe because of board infighting.

We'll f**k this up, nothing surer.

That makes it an even bigger conflict of interest as essentially the NRL could decide who koukash buys regardless of who he wants to buy.

Yes but the easiest path for the NRL is the Knights because they actually own them and I would suspect that for all their talk, they do really want to get rid of the club as soon as possible.

Thanks for the link...

Interesting that the Bennett contract obviously makes up a significant swag of $2 million, if that is an accurate figure.

Have to laugh at the article though where it states "...It?s understood the NRL has entrusted Gidley will the job of reigning in the costs, that had blown out to extraordinary levels under Tinkler, ..." - Uummm wouldn't it be that this is what he is getting paid for as CEO?!#-o

The issue re 'blowing out' under Tinkler would presumably reflect on HSGs management during the period?

Midley appeared for all intents and purposes to be a puppet and there was no need to keep costs under control when our obese overlord gave the club a blank cheque.

That said, I wouldn't trust him with my personal finances, let alone a company with revenue in the millions.

As chicken hunter points out, now that the river of money has dried up this was inevitable.

Koukash has said he will happily own a club in partnership with others. He has setup a fans advisory board for Salford and there is no club board at Salford. Marwan makes the calls. As he should. It is his money. I would have no problem with that setup. No more Chief and his sentimental bollocks. Gids has done well but his job has passed it's use by date. Club boards are a joke. All talk.
