Some interesting ideas. I think they're a bit critical of the NBL. I think its a good competition, for Australia. It always hard to break the market when in Australia sports like rugby league, cricket and AFL are so dominant.

I think there needs to be more coverage of NBA. This will draw people to basketball in general and then into NBL. It going to take a while but I am sure basketball willl take off in Australia again.

After all Basketball is the 2nd most popular sport worldwide only behind soccer.

Agreed. Basketball is on the way back up with new Free to air coverage of the game. Unfortunatly for the NBA here it seems that it will stay on Pay TV for a while yet. Kudos to Fox sports for showing 2 games a week but as always ESPN Pacific f**ks the game time and time again with them only showing 1 game out of 4-5 a week they could show. Thank god for TVU player. I'm also on the view that imports should be raised to 3-4 per team but that's just my opinion.

As old or as bad a they are I also think the NBL should have a marqee player rule like in the A-League. Get a retired (Or close to) but resonably well known NBA player to clubs. I imagine it would get people through the door.
Another suggestion I have thrown around is partnerships with NBA clubs. David Stern has already stated that he wishes NBDL clubs to be partnered with NBL clubs but I think that they can go a bit better.
Imagine say the Kings partnered with the Lakers or Sacramento. West Sydney with New Jersey Perth with Phoenix etc etc. Sell their sister teams merchandise at games and vice versa. I mean the real gear not the fake gear they sell here now.
And finally bring some NBA teams here for pre season training and a couple of pre season games.

enf of rant.

yeah a mate of mine runs that site. i want the nbl to take off and I liked the suggestion of more links with the NBA. I think the NBL should try really hard to get the training camps etc here because you see them in Spain and Italy and England but never here.

Not to be overly critical, but this guy is just cheezing off ESPN's Sports Guy Column. The running diary, the list, the mailbag!? He even called himself the "Sydney Sports Fan."

(Anyone whose everyone knows that Bill Simmons -- aka ESPN's Sports Guy -- began writing under the "Boston Sports Guy" alias)

What the? I don't ask for much as a reader, but perhaps a little more originality would be nice. Maybe changing the name of the running diary to something else. Or calling the mailbag something other than the mailbag.

I mean, your call aussiesportsfan. Your call...
