I am sick and tired of the ARU throwing money at old league stars at the expense of rugby juniors. Not that long ago, Clyde Rathbone and Mark Gerrard had their offers downgraded so the ARU could spend big on Timana Tahu. Now, Adam Ashley-Cooper, all of 23 years old with years ahead of him and plenty of potential that he has already begun to realise, is being forced out so the ARU can throw money at Craig Wing.
I am sick and tired of this. Not only is it always seemingly the Brumbies players who lose out because the ARU is so incredibly biased towards NSW to the point of corruption, but there are genuine, good Australian juniors who are continually snubbed while a league player is paid well above his value, simply because he's a league player.
There has been plenty of debate over why Australian rugby is struggling, well I believe this is the prime reason. Too much money being spent on expensive league players who, for the most part, are guaranteed a Wallabies jersey despite most having a hard time with the conversion, whilst our young talent gets disillusioned and looks for alternative opportunities, be they overseas or in different sports.
It is often said as a joke to put down the sport of union that it is easier to obtain a Wallabies jersey by playing in the NRL than by being a rugby union junior. The sad indictment on the administration in this country is that statement is embarrassingly true.
