Just sitting here thinking about where the Aussie side is at having just lost the Ashes.
Obviously it's a huge disappointment and I agree with Warne that England were not the better side than Australia in the series, unlike 2005.
I actually see a heap of potential in this Aussie team.
Forget the domination of the Warne-McGrath era but with the systems we have in plave we should expect to be in the top 3 countries in the world at all times.
There are some issues - the selectors are clearly idiots and we're lacking in a few areas but I see some good signs in the players.
Johnson needs to keep developing and find consistency but at his best is devastating.
Between Clark and Lee we have a quality bowler depending on the conditions (when you play at Lords, Clark plays. Idiots).
Siddle to me is an excellent reserve bowler. I still see him as a real worker rather than a brilliant bowler but in certain situations, all good.
Hilfy. Was good in England but not sure how he will go in other conditions. The jury is out but potential is there.
Spinning options - do your best. Hauritz has become an excellent limited overs bowler. I personally don't see why so many diss him. He is no Warne and should never ne an automatic inclusion but on the right wickets he can be very good in Tests.
As for the batting line-up, tweaking is needed but we will never ne short on quality batsmen.
Summary - the Ashes loss was devastating but I think it disguised the potential this side has. The potential came to the surface in Sth Africa but missed chances in England.
Good days, not great days, ahead.
Our expectations are used to being high but my criticisms of the side are more off-field than on-field right now.
Discuss.
