Aust v India Test Series 24/25 Revenge or India three peat ?

Well given Wadey got 15 years of undeserved international cricket and 36 farcical tests, I think we can give a bloke who isn't an absolute retread a few home summers.

I think if he can't make a fist of opener they'll give him a go in the middle order post Darsh or Labs or Smith
I agree, it’s one of those things CA do poorly, they’ll just rotate blokes in and out until something works. Khawaja was one of those as was Marnus.

There are some however who get a game or two and are never seen again - Cal Ferguson, Alex Doolan, Nic Maddinson, Moises, and a plethora of spinners between Hogg & Lyon. Chris Rogers seemed to get that treatment too before he got a late recall.

Poor old Callum Ferguson. Not many more deserved debuts at the time, especially after the comeback from so many injuries. He got absolutely BBQd by his captain first innings when he was actually looking ok IIRC, then scapegoated.

Super good cricketer

How many tests does McSweeney get if he doesn’t deliver?

Also, if he fails does he become a Marcus Harris “rotated in and out” player or is he done?
Depends on what you classify as a pass mark and if were winning.

Bancroft got 5,82*,10,4,25,26,27,0 in a home 5-test Ashes series back in 2017/18 which was 179 runs @ 25.57 and we won the series.

He was kept on to South Africa and the rest is history.

Harris got 327 runs @ 32.70 from 6 tests in his debut summer.

So in reality he only needs to average around 30-35 and see off the new ball and is already ahead of those 2.

India won't fear that I reckon. They'll just back Bumrah and that nine foot tall garden stake fella to make our bats as shit as theirs

Serious question…. Done with Renshaw?

Guessing so, manufacturing an opener has been pretty successful in for many teams in recent years, ironically with the exception of the best player to try it… think he’d have been good in the long run because, well, he’s Steve Smith

Smith should still be opening. Throwing in a a young bloke who's not an opener is crazy

Just never scores enough runs in shield.

His form is as bad as Bancrofts atm.

You can't pick him when he is doing nothing below

Form is poor but will definitely be in the picture if he finds it again. Every member of the side trotted out for Warners last test is now the wrong side of 30. I’d expect to see 1-2 go after the India series if it goes poorly and a further 2-3 go after the Ashes regardless of the result. The likes of Renshaw will then be right back in the picture. Outside of Green, Head, Marnus & Cummins, I wouldn’t bet on any of the current players making the 2027 Ashes.

he was in the test squad recently though, I thought?

Regardless, it is interesting that it's not like the old days when the likes of Hayden, Love, Blewett, M Waugh, Langer, Slater, Elliott etc etc were at various stages pumping out first class records but outside the test XI - that era was just insane

20/20 has ruined the sport. It will be as boring as baseball in the future

India hiding how poor Kholis form is ??

Walk along Braithwaite Street in East Perth and you pass the famed WACA nets where there is the familiar sight of cricketers - ranging from state to junior players - going through the paces.

But on Tuesday it was rather an eyesore, with the nets completely covered by black shade cloth that snaked around near a construction site amid the ground's major redevelopment, which is expected to be completed before next season.

It was day one of India's tour of Australia and the secrecy was reminiscent of their last visit to Perth during the 2022 T20 World Cup when a similar effort to thwart prying eyes took place. On that occasion, however, India did play two matches against a WA XI side that attracted near capacity crowds with the entry fee donated to the WA Cricket Foundation.

This time around India have opted for total privacy, though the BCCI clarified* that no instruction was given by the team to the WACA stadium authorities or the media that Wednesday's training would be behind closed doors.

He should get at least 10 Tests to gauge whether he'll make it or not. It's unreasonable to give him 2-3 Tests and expect him to perform out of the gates. The problem is that it's difficult to carry a young fella trying to get a start while the rest of the batting order are hopelessly out of form. I feel he will be made the scapegoat when realistically Marnus or Smith should probably get the chop first. Marnus most likely.
