What? We have plenty of other forwards anyway. Cordner, Bird, Thaiday, Gallen, Myles... Why do we need another?

I thought the purpose of a squad was to cover for injuries? There's enough players in the squad to cover Lewis and if they want another "utility" it's the selectors fault for not picking one

Accidents like this is why we have 25 man squads ffs!... No need for an extra replacement, as pointed out there is plenty of depth to cover for Lewis out of that 25 man pool... Piss off Sheens!

No way should Australia get special treatment. They get 7 days in between games while the minnows get 4-5 days between games.

Another WC team (I forget who) has already been denied replacing a player while the competition has started

Many countries are running below their 24. Samoa are down 3 or so, Wales, Ireland, USA.. these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head

So what is the difference between the Aussies asking for a replacement and Samoa asking for a replacement. (Which they have done)

All sides are permitted to make the request.

It's just not guaranteed to be approved

BTW I agree we shouldn't need to make the request. A 25 man squad is plenty for the World Cup.

This thread is just another excuse for people to take a shot at Australia

Gilgandra born former South Aussie and Tasmanian cricketer Donald O'Connor is the hot tip to replace Luke Lewis in the squad.

All I can say is, if you are respected by all teams as the world leaders, perhaps except the kiwis, who have rightful claim on a world champs tag, don't disrespect the comp by trying to bend the rules. Lewis injury was an accident. Wish him the best, but it was a freak. You never see that in those grounds week in, week out. Roos squad is more than capable of covering one injury ffs

Even if they are granted the request (unlikely), what would be the point? Anyone they brought in would not have trained or played for 6 weeks and it would be a big ask for them to get on a 24 hour flight to Limerick, then play probably a day later.

They are best off just sticking with the current squad.

I reckon the tournament director should decline the request for a replacement player and send them a bill for a replacement advertising hoarding...

According to Rugby League Week Facebook they have been denied, however..
JUST IN: Australia's request to replace the injured Luke Lewis has been denied by RLWC organisers.

Meanwhile, Samoa have been granted permission to call up Tony Puletua after Harrison Hansen, Frank Winterstein and Reni Maitua were all ruled out through injury.

Good. I am Australian but I believe this is the right move, shouldn't roll over for Australia or anyone no matter how much they complain. Australia have enough quality players to pick up where Lewis left off. I'm sure it would be the same if Tomkins or someone like Pritchard got injured.
