i've always maintained he'd of had 8,000+ tests runs and would of been a successful captain if he was any nationality but australian

always deserved a second chance imo

It was disgraceful he was never given a second chance.

he got labelled as a poor player of short pitched bowling and never really recovered from it.

Anyone that has almost 20000 first class runs @57 doesnt have a serious problem with short bowling.

even more so a disgrace was he was labeled a "one day specialist" only. pffft what a load of horsesh*t. they obviously didn't watch sheffield shield. and he only got better as the years when on

i remember watching at the SCG NSW v South Africa in a tour game and bevan absolutely murdered justin ontong. hit him for about 4 sixes in an row. i think bevo made a double hundred that innings was fantastic stuff to watch. tore apart an international bowling attack with ease

just the same way they said JL was "too slow" for one day cricket

Hodges stats are completley skewed by his innings of 203 though.

take out that innings and his average is 25.

Why take out his highest score? Take out his lowest score and his average will probably be in the 60's. The fact is his avge is excellent and the fact is he hasn't been given a bucket load of chances at test level even though the myth says so.

And vice versa.

If Michael Bevan had've been given a second chance in test cricket, he would've got his batting average well up over 40 in very short time, just like Hayden, Ponting, Langer and Martyn all did after slow starts to their careers.

Bevans first class record is impeccable, bettered by very few.

I can't disagree with that. Bevan should have been given a few more chances expecially on the sub-continent where his perceived weakness to the short ball would hardly come into play on those flat tracks.

bevan was also unfairly imo put into the category of an all rounder which he wasn't. he was a batsman who was capable with the ball but was never going to hold down a spot as an all rounder. the selectors obsession for a bloody all rounder sh*ts me. they should be picking the best 11 men in the country

you take out the highest score because the amount of innings he has played means in unfairly skews the result. Ie. it doesnt accuratley represent his batting.

thats why batsmens stats generally arent considered reliable until they have played 20 innings.

Australia 2/90... Sharma's bowling well. Bowden's just said no to him for a Punter LBW...

The way this wicket is playing so inconsistently and unevenly, you'd think a wicket or several isnt far away....Ponting & Hussey are coping but not looking comfy...hopefully they can stay in and force the pressure onto the indian bowlers, cant see it though- hope i'm wrong.
If anyone can get the Aussies outta this pickle, its Ponting, big game player

Aust 2/103 - 310 to go

0/38 1st hour negotiated nicely

25% of the runs achieved
20% wickets down

That was some pretty shocking attempted fielding from Tendulkar...

First Class Stats
Michael Bevan -237 Matches-400 Inns-66 Not Outs-19147 Runs-216 HS-57.32 Avg-
81 x 50's - 68 x 100's

Ricky Ponting First Class batting Average = 59.97
Matthew Hayden First Class Avg = 53.63
Justin Langer First Class Avg = 50.73
Damien Martyn First Class Avg = 49.25

These guys all got a second chance ahead of Bevo. Bevan was batting in spots 5 to 7 when he played Tests, against the last decent West Indies side. Most of the time he came out to bat when runs were desperately needed. This fallacy of him being suss against the short ball is bullsh*t. He had to try and score as many runs possible knowing he had some less then capable batsmen in the tail (compared to the last 6 seasons in the test side)

He was used in a way that he wasn't suited, and he had to try and make the most of his chance.

He would have scored many many runs if he batted constantly, no lower than 5, and toured the sub continent.

Dopey f**king Australian selectors

Sharma would be a good prospect but he's too fresh. Like Johnson - when he's off he is off. Too early IMO... give him a few years.

Well he's owed a few when you look at the shocker he got out to in his first test innings.
