Australia v Wales

Although the Aussies may have flogged the Welsh on the scoreboard, I though the Welsh players fought extremely hard and it was great to see the young blokes likes Jordan James, ALed James and David Mills have such a dig. The experience of playing against the best team in the world will hopefully do wonders for their game in the future.

Of the Welsh players, I thought Ian Watson was terrific and Moreley and Ashton tried harda all game. Out wide I would have liked to have seen James with the ball in his hands a bit more, but I though O'Hare was very dangerous everytime he touched the ball and Tassell always plays well when he dons the red of Wales.

With a number of Welsh players on the verge of retirement, the likes of Farrell, Ellis, Bateman and hopefully Atcheson, the Dragons will need these young players to step up and learn from this experience as it will be a vastly different side come this time next year I predict.

All in all, the Welsh Dragons fought hard, but without their main stars in Cunningham, Briers and Carvell it was always going to be a tough day out against a worldclass team in the Kangaroos.

an excellent effort without the likes of Cunningham, Briers and Carvell

i also agree o'hare, lennon, morely and watson were good

hopefully with the likes of these guys coming back and perhaps getting someone back like llestyn harris in addition to new talent from the welsh conference, the welsh team will be much more competitive next time

Wales tried their guts out but unfortuanatley they just couldnt defend against the Aussies. It was a good ground to watch rugby league at, my brother and I went down and had a ball as we got so close to all the players and the action. And we also got to see lots of other Aussies on the tour and got a photo with the legendary Artie Beetson ! Can't wait till next week its going to be a great game with the Lions!

Also anybody who wants to see a few photo's of the Kangaroos can go here as i took heaps today

The player Wales miss most is Paul Highton, he is the rock of their forward pack, agree with Global 13, Jordan James looks like one for the future

Does this mean it was a more impressive performance from the Aussies?

This was a much more impressive performance by the Aussies. There seemed like there was more of a combination between Gower and Kimmorley although interestingly Ricketson made a big impact running first receiver off Kimmorley. There are still a few things that need working on like lots of drop ball and occasional silly play when there is no need for it. But apart from that a pretty good performance

Unfortunately I failed to tape about 38 mins of the first half so only saw from then on. :( Agree with this sentiment though.

Eddie and Stevo dubbed Chris Morley as the pick of the Welsh team, but I thought Ian Watson was brilliant yet again with his excellent running from dummy half. This guy has performed consistently well against Aus and NZ - is he in SL this year? If not, why not?

Agree that Tassell performed solidly, and Gibson did some nice things in the few touches he got, including one great break down the sideline. Gibson was largely wasted though.

With a number of Welsh players on the verge of retirement, the likes of Farrell, Ellis, Bateman and hopefully Atcheson, the Dragons will need these young players to step up and learn from this experience as it will be a vastly different side come this time next year I predict.

Atcheson was extremely poor today. The guy is not representative class as a fullback, was very slow at the back in making tackles and chasing kicks. If he had to be there at all, it should have been at centre. Rob Roberts was also anonymous.

All in all, the Welsh Dragons fought hard, but without their main stars in Cunningham, Briers and Carvell it was always going to be a tough day out against a worldclass team in the Kangaroos.

Adrian Morley would give Wales a new dimension too (one can dream)! 8)

Jordan James is a great story, he is a marine who has been away in the Gulf and has hardly played any footy at all this year apart from a couple of Academy games with Sheffield, but he impressed enough in those few games to earn a contract.
If he keeps developing he should make SL in the next few years.
