This is my reply on The Wall to some guy who was gutted his favourite little singer got booted off that crap show. ..

Am i too harsh ?
----------------------------
who? what? where ? how?

oh hang on ... you are talking about this lame arse "reality" show arent you ?

Even that "reality" show about some guy trying to fit into an actual real band is much better than this Idol crap. Singing is easy, fitting in is MUCH harder.

This, sunshine, IS REALITY. You get to this stage of reality by working your arse off in pubs and clubs, NOT Reality shows ...

Some examples of what i mean ...
wink.gif

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Fire ... Live at Woodstock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EJbpDzFDh8

Eric Clapton doing a great cover of a JJ Cale Song. Possibly the Best Cover of ALL TIME.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnn1dDVmZyQ

ACDC with Bon ... So so rare ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78pA18p3OgM

When these kids learn the hard yards like these bands did (and they are 3 of millions), then and ONLY then, will i respect them. How the hell can anyone respect someone who never did the hard yards ?

Your tears are wasted on clowns ... Especially Singing clowns ... like Mark Holden and Marcia. They only know about singing, and how much did they earn ? SFA !! 40 year old songs cant cut it you idiots !!

Fit into a band ... we'll ALL see how good you are at singing ... or anything else for that matter.

Idol bashing is so two years ago, people just don't care anymore. It's a rubbish show, we all know that. Anyone watching it and expecting a Hendrix, Clapton or Bon Scott would be geniused... people know what they're going to get; teenagers who are moderately good looking and would probably be decent karaoke singers gaining a ridiculous amount of fans for doing absolutely nothing apart from butcher a few songs.

What concerns me most about this competition isn't the lack of quality music or work the contestants have to put in to get a few cheap #1 singles, it's the fan followings these people get. The fact that these teenage girls (generalisation but still) would worship the ground some 17 year old guy or whatever walks on purely because he's good looking and on some reality tv show once a week really worries me. If I were a parent I'd be teaching my kids not to be moronic sheep and to enjoy things that are worth the effort, but awell.

To be fair:

* Comparing Hendrix and Clapton with Idol contestants - particularly at the point of their careers that you are choosing - is pretty dumb. Find some footage of when they were 17 and unsigned and compare apples with apples;

* They are looking for a leg-up in their careers - given the state of the music industry (reducing sales, reducing number of labels, reducing number of artists being signed, reducing number of pubs playing live music) who could blame them?;

* Idol deserves some credit for getting a different breed of artist on the show this year - artists that write and play their own material. Unfortunately the same generic artist will most likely win and we'll get another one hit wonder whose career will be dead this time next year.

Well said Alex. If a couple of them have a bit of talent and go on to earn a bit of money like then good luck to them. Of course its over hyped but so is every show. Cant really criticise too much since i watch athletes catch a football and bash each other evey week just to earn Murdoch a few bucks.

Generally I would agree with you, but after hearing the bloke of who got voted after doing a version of Under pressure by Bowie and Queen I was keeping an eye on idol. A bloody talented individual imo.

I'm glad he got voted out - 1) I can stop watching the shyte and 2) he might actually put a decent album together.

Totally agree I've been following him on the show too, he is so unique and to his credit he didn't give into the pressure to change so he could get more votes, he stayed true to himself.

Heres a couple of clips of him.

Doing original stuff at the troubabdor in Brisbane last year before he was on idol (yes he's worked his arse off in pubs and clubs for years)

Love his dancing in Super Freak haha, his mannerisms remind me of Sarah Blasko.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was godlike at guitar when he was 15. Clapton was with the Yardbirds when he was 18.

Some of you guys should go to jam nights at your local pub. You will see some serious musical talent (and some crap aswell.)

It's pretty clear tht Chris, Damien and Bobby are genuine talents of the pub scene.

OVP is being particularly lame, once again.

Yeah I love those types of musical wankfests. :crazy:

Good music is about good songs, not "jamming".

I was asking whether i was being too harsh. Once again my question Flew right OVER the cuckoo's nest :roll:

Why dont you just change your name to Hrundi V. Bakshi ?... such a tryhard you are. :roll: But you'd never qualify for that name ...
