HISTORICAL FIRST AUSTRALIAN RUGBY LEAGUE TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA The Australian universities side will be arriving at Oliver Tambo airport on Thursday 16 July 2009 for their three match tour of South Africa.
The team will consist of 18 players and 8 Officials.
The Australian Universities tour of South Africa is very historical as it will be the first time in history that an Australian Rugby League side visits South Africa.
Previous encounters between Australia and South Africa were:
1963 in Australia when the “League Boks” toured Australia and New Zealand.
www.sarugbyleague.co.za

1995 World Cup in England when the Rhinos met Australia for the first time.
The Australian Universities side will be arriving in South Africa on 16th.July 2009 and will play three(3) matches on their tour. Viz
Saturday 18 July vs.SA Rhinos( Ikageng Stadium, Potchefstroom)(Kick off 2h30pm)
Wednesday 22 July vs. SA Rhinos A (Bosman Stadium, Brakpan)(kick off 7h00pm)
Saturday 25 July vs. Tuks/Bulls (JU stadium, Johannesburg)(kick off 2h30pm)
The match at Potchefstroom will be the “test match “ of the tour when the South African Rhinos play against the touring side.
The purpose of the Australian Universities tour is to introduce Rugby League to South African Universities.
South African Rugby League is confident that the next RLIF Students World Cup will include Rhino Students.
South African Rugby League is also investigating the possibilities to host a Students World cup in future.

Nice. The AURL has always been a pretty good organisation, especially considering it's not very big.

The CRL is also considering sending a team to South Africa next year. That would be awesome.

need to host nrl match to get spectator support, have player numbers.
Also going to have spare stadiums after the wc ,sa deserve the 15th super franchise as super 15 would be nothing without them.If melb gets the new super 15 franchise sa would be better off applying to the nrl that way their empty stadium would get some real action. This is what sa should be saying to joke give us the super 15 franchise or we will apply for an nrl franchise

Oh goodness me, that would cause a storm... not sure if there is a touch of sarcasm in those comments or not.... but would SA RL be able to afford to set up an NRL franchise?

I think SA will pull out of the whole Super thing anyway and look to Europe... they have a ton of players playing in France and Engalnd already so makes sense really.
