Away games

The NRL needs to do more to promote away fans going to games

Away memberships would be a good idea. Or even allowing interstate clubs such as the Warriors, Cowboys or Broncos to get Sydney memberships so more away fans will travel.

That said are you a regular away traveller? What grounds have you been to? Which grounds are next on the list?

I have been to:
SCG
Leichhardt (pre season game only)
North Sydney
ANZ
Kogarah
Brookvale (both Roosters and other team)
Canberra
Penrith
Shark Park (not v Roosters)
Suncorp (not v Roosters)

This year I will be seeing the Broncos at Suncorp and hope to get up to Newcastle

They could start with season ticketed members of all away teams being allowed entry to SFS, ANZ and Suncorp (maybe even AAMI) unless there is a reasonable expectation that the joint will be sold out i.e. ANZAC Day and Broncos/Cowboys

I am also going to Suncorp this year (been before) and have been to all currently used Sydney grounds except for Brookvale and Penrith.

Went to Adelaide last year which was great, AAMI is definitely top of the to do list.

Yep AAMI, Gold Coast and Newcastle are top of my list.

Wollongong and Campbelltown also need a visit. Would be good to see the Roosters at Shark Park too.

This is already a thing and fairly sure it has been for a while.

Warriors - across the ditch http://warriors.memberlink.net.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=EWRR0000018GW
Cowboys - distant star http://membership.cowboys.com.au/packages/view/904/Distant-Star
Broncos - below the border https://membership.broncos.com.au/packages/view/468/Below-The-Border-Sydney-Membership
Storm - interstate plus (NSW, SA and QLD options, NSW shown here) http://membership.melbournestorm.com.au/package/nsw-plus/
Titans - away legion https://membership.titans.com.au/package/non-ticketed

Most Sydney based clubs do the same for interstate

I think what he is saying is that a full season member (12 games) should be able to travel to any of the large stadiums like ANZ, SFS, Suncorp and AAMI and get free entry as a travelling away fan.

Sydney should definitely be offered an away membership. No surprise it was raised in LU instead of NRLHQ

Raiders fan - been to SFS, ANZ, Brooky, Shark Park, Campbelltown, Penrith, Parramatta, Gosford, Newwy and Robina. Also went to Leichgardt for a NSW Cup semi a few years ago. To be fair, I live in Sydney so it's a bit easier.

I seem to vaguely recall Canberra doing a Sydney membership once, where they sent you a GA ticket for 6 matches of your choice in Sydney, or something.

I know this might be a bit simple, but I've often wondered if the league just took a hard line with 'home' and 'away' jerseys this might help. None of these bullshit 15 jersey a season things. Away fans can buy the away jersey and sit in the away bay.

I literally quoted what he said and addressed it directly?

You used to be able contact the club to get cheap away tickets if you were a member. That was some time ago. Wish that never went away.

Lets see if I can remember every ground I have

I get emails from the Roosters with codes for members discounts to purchase tickets for away games.

Depends. If you grew up somewhere else and moved to the 'gong already following a team, you get a bit of leeway and your club should go out of their way to look after you.

If you grew up in the 'gong then you're a merkin and you deserve nothing.
import - phew.

Has the NRL ever tried to get a partnership going with an airline and a government for cheap flights with ticket to game? If I could get a cheap flight and my team didn't suck severely I would consider traveling down to Melbourne, across to Auckland or up to the GC or Townsville.
I still think that the draw should be done so that certain teams play in Brisbane one weekend and then on the GC the next weekend, get some travel deals going and you would have fans up there for a week.

Most Sydney based clubs do the same for interstate

It's really limited though
One game in Australia for a Warriors fan

A Sydney membership would be a great touch for away fans
Access to all Sydney grounds, say 5 tickets
$100 membership for the year
NRL splits revenue between Warriors and whichever clubs the tickets are used at

As i suggested in another thread last week, my suspicion is that the rise of pre-paid home memberships has resulted in a bit of a drop in punters paying for any more games during the year.
When you've already paid for 10-12 games up front, it becomes harder to justify paying for more games at $30 a pop.
