Bad Casting from Lead Characters in Books

As an avid reader who takes a keen interest in popular books made into movies ,i was just wondering if there has been a case of utter disbelief at who was cast ,or you think that it was as close as you can get to the book characters.
Most good writers put a Pic in your mind early on as to what a lead in a book looks like ,so you sort of expect in a movie there would be someone similar.

The Best.

The Green Mile probably was the best cast i have seen .The characters (with much input from Stephen King who got sick of Hollywood wrecking his stories) were near spot on .

The Worst.

Jack Reacher.

I loved the Jack Reacher book series.
Lee Child is an excellent writer & Reacher is the most popular fictional character in the World.
My Kids(also avid readers) used to often discuss who could you cast as a 6Ft5 250 Pd ex Military cop who could intimidate people with his sheer size.

All sorts of names popped up from The Rock to David Morse (Brutal in the Green Mile) but he is prob too old now.

To hear a 4ft2 midget was being cast as Reacher was laughable.
& going by the outcry on social media ,Tom Cruise was not a popular choice..

Wont ever see the movie,,have no desire to.

So post away on who was well cast & who was a terrible choice.

Most of the lotr cast was well done.

Casting Ben affleck in any superhero role is madness

Cruise was good in Jack Reacher. But then he's good in everything, despite the heat he receives.

However I had no idea it was even based on a book, thus I had no preconceived ideas of the character.

Will Smith in I Am Legend. Not just because he's black, but as soon as he was cast I knew it wouldn't be the movie it could/should have been. It's an alright movie, but the book is great.

Great Casting:
Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, and Patrick Stewart in X-Men. Hell, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were even better in many ways.

Poor Casting:
Stuart Townsend as Aragorn (replaced by Viggo Mortensen, thank God).
Stuart Townsend as Lestat

most of the harry potter casting was top shelf

Ryan Reynolds was terrible in Green Lantern but good for the roll of deadpool even though the movies were bad.

Ledger was a strange choice for Joker but ran with it.

Denise Richards in world is not enough was worse then terrible

Ben Affleck in daredevil is a very low point in comic movie history. I'm sure he is going to do Batman a great honor :sarcasm:
