List of contracted players kindly supplied by Danny Munk. I asked Danny who he thought would be players to watch this year. He was reluctant to nominate players until the season had commenced but did mention Jeff Lima.

Note benji is on our list - that means he would play for us in PL if not playing with JV. Now that would be something to see him in a Balmain jersey!

The list is an excel table and I tried a cut a paste but no luck. I'l' attempt to type it out tommorrow. The centres and props in Flegg are very good!

Speaking of fathers & sons, I remember reading a story last year in one of the local rags about Trevor Ryans boy.....quite a capable player apparently. Think he made some sort of minor rep team. It was a very brief article.

Given the NRL players are not likely to play many games in PL my impression is that our PL side will be very young. The players from last season who were older and who - mistakenly - may have had aspirations to make it in the NRL have all gone. This trend of having PL sides that are much younger, if followed by other clubs, will mean the PL being an under 23 or less competition. Raises questions about how the PL will unfold in future.

Rob Simpkins: whats the story? He is listed as a Balmain NRL player. Did I miss something here. Who is he and where has he come from?

You can always just email it to me if you don't want to type it out

thanks :)

My only worries for flegg is that I can see many of the stars getting PL/NRL call-ups through the year - we already know we're almost certain to lose both farah and bronson and those two were responsible for most of our attack.

I'm hoping both kmet and braumann overcome last years patchy form and have a good season 'cause they are both matchwinners on their day but neither were very inspiring last year.

young but there is still a bit of experience in the side

Both luland and bowman have managed 100 games for balmain (impressive given they are both still pretty young) and players like Jaime Small and Matt Gillard also have a fair bit of experience.

I actually think we've got a decent mix there as long as injuries are kind to us - I hope they make bowman captain because not only does he deserve it but seeing as he's unlikely to get the first grade call-up he should also be around the entire season which will give us some stability

interesting to see Matt Gillard return to premier league with Balmain.
he was a good player with Guildford last year in the Jim Beam Cup though there would be a number of Jim Beam Cup centers last year that out performed him throughout the season.
i'll be interested as to whether he can cement a spot with Balmain this year in the starting pl team. he seems to be struggling more in the fitness department than when with Guildford and has bulked up substantially.

before he went to guildford matt gillard was, imo, our best centre but he had a major injury (knee?) and we didn't resign him.

I'm looking forward to having him back but theres going to be a lot of competition in the centres this year and I wouldn't be suprised to see him turn out for R-E

Hopefully he does cement a place for balmain though.

So that leaves:

Brett Hodgson
Scott Sattler
Scott Prince
Nick Graham
Shane Elford
Daniel Fitzhenry
John Skandalis
Ben Galea
Luke Covell
Anthony Laffranchi
Gray Viane
Chris Paterson
Liam Fulton
Robert Mears
Bryce Gibbs
Dean Collis

Swap Galea for Buettner? Strange - can't say we'd really want either (and they both are serious candidates for some Premiers games). Might get some use out of Elford during the season and Patto, Super, and Gravy will play a fair bit of Premiers as will Paps. Liam and Deano are possible bolters for First Grade, but Bryce will play Flegg. After what I saw yesterday the Magpies shortage of big hard front rowers has turned into a glut.

Three early predictions:
Mark down Cashmere for First Grade later in the year,
Jot down the name Richard Parker - you'll be hearing more about this big unit,
Put the house on Narellan for the JB Cup. Wests will be loading them up big time with some awesome talent.

Huh Ben Galea with the Magpies? Now that's odd :?: Being a former Balmain player, i would have thought he would automatically would play for the Tigers if not in First Grade with Wests? That's like Skando being dropped and playing for Balmain. Surely its a mistake?

narrellan for the jim beam cup hey happy?
hopefully wests give them a hand as by the looks of them at the Jim Beam Cup sevens they definately need it.
they were thoroughly outplayed all day and didnt seem to be prepared for a higher level of football. they picked up a number of recruits from other Jim Beam Cup clubs though none of these players were standouts at their previous clubs.
hopefully the Maggies can seriously help them out and form a good working relationship. otherwise im putting my money on Narellan for the wooden spoon and to pull out of the JBC following the 2003 comp.

yeah I'm banking that his name was left off the list by accident - a couple of players have switched premier league clubs before but its rare and I woulda thought galea was a cert for balmain.

(yappy I'd swap ya galea for beuttner no probs ;-) )
