First of all I was at the GF and as a neutral supporter was so happy for the Sharks to win their maiden grand final.

On this Ben Barba issue I am sorry but I have absolutely no sympathy for him whatsover.

There have been others over the years who have been largely banished from the game or punished more severely from lesser indiscretions.

I hope he turns his life around for the sake of himself and his family but long term I don't think it will happen.

Brent Read has said on Triple M tonight. That Greenburg spoke to Barba on the phone today and believes that Barba will backflip on French Rugby and serve suspension at sharks and stay in the NRL.

I think I comes down to Barba trying to force the NRLs hand. There's not many folk out there who can afford to go months without being paid - they need to register his contract so that he can start earning again.
And if they're not gonna do that, what option does he have but to look elsewhere for a pay packet.
Clearly the NRL don't like how clever we've played the situation and engineered it to reduce Barbas salary.

What I don't get is he got a 12 week ban. Why the f**k are the NRL not registering his contract. The punishment is 12 weeks. I heard Greenberg say this week Barba got permission to train at the club but not with the squad, can only train solo....wtf is that. By not registering the contract the NRL is effectively extending his suspension to a time no one can predict. I would love to see Barba play for Toulon this weekend in the 10's as one off appearance as the NRL continue to make the rules up as they go. I think he will stay with the Sharks but don't be surprised to see him this weekend in Brisbane with Toulon.

Legally & morally (as an NRL) player, he has done the wrong thing.

But how the f**k he can be tested 3 days after winning a grand final, following 4 months of intense pre-season training & 7 months of high pressure contact sport is bullshit.

You look at how hard the NRL worked to register Hayne's contract late last year for the Titans...And all these strange rules that have appeared for the first time ever in relation to Barba...It's f**ked.

I don't see why the contract needs to be registered really...Surely the ban would be more fairly worded as 'the player cannot appear in an NRL event for this period of time.' That shouldn't influence his ability to be registered or train with his squad (where's the RLPA?) which has hugely negative impacts on player welfare.

I can't get over the strabgeness of the NRL's interpretations of rules that don't even seem to exist until an incident arises...

Also, I'm with those in here who don't give a shit about a couple lines (or even a whole bag, who cares!) of coke in an isolated incident in private (about as harmless as pissing in your own mouth)

It's unbelievable that the NRL can just make it up as they go along on each individual case.
Aren't we in Legal Proceedings with a certain ex-player for not following due process (even though we were morally right). Barba should get a solicitor and go for the NRL.
And as Ghoti said, where the F are the RLPA?
