NRL that is is committed to see an NRL club back in Perth by 2010 at the latest

Excellent. now is the time to start working on it and the NRL/ARL must start liasing with the WARL and find a way to make a Perth RL team viable.

My biggest worry is the fans who will support it. In an example, after stumbling from Crown Casino to Flinders Street station on GF day 1999. I was there in my Storm jersey and there weren't many people on the station but a guy in a North Melbourne jersey came up to me and asked who won and I told him Melbourne. He was happy for them but explained he was from Perth and was in town for the OTHER GF. He told me he was a foundation memebre at the Western Reds, never missed a game and even if the NRL put a Perth team in he wouldn't support them because of the way the Reds got dicked around.

Obviously this is not reflective of ALL Western Australian sports fans but if they are going to do it right this time they have to start planning NOW. 4 years isn't that long a timeframe!

For those those talking abot Melby being cut...

"Melbourne Storm staying in the NRL is like sex with Kobe Bryant. It's gonna happen wether you want it to or not!"

Sorry, Family Guy moment.

I think a second NZ team is the best option. They have the juniors, and it would also mean that the NRL is played in NZ each week (Warriors home one week, Wellington the next).

I realise that CC are screaming out for a team, but I think other regions such as Perth are of more commercial value to the NRL. Having a team represting WA is more appealing than another NSW/East Coast team.

After that CC would be in for sure. I don't think we'll see an Adelaide team in our lifetime TBH.

Adelaide were only ever to make up the numbers in the SL comp to bring it up to 10. SL wanted another Sydney team but couldn't persuade any of them to go across. I still have a 1996 SL draw somewhere that has "North S." on it.

When they couldn't get the Bears, they had to make up another team. There were even rumours about a team from Japan before they went for Adelaide, spiritual home of News Ltd.

In 1998 they should have kept Perth in and not expanded into Melbourne for a few years until RL was in a position of strength. Unfortunately there was politics with News having promised to give Ribot a team as thanks for his services to the sport and keeping to this in negotiations with the ARL.

The Western Reds sowed the seeds of their own destruction a bit though when they left to go to Super League after a grand total of about 2 weeks in the ARL premiership. They screwed the ARL over so the ARL wasn't going to fight for their inclusion in the NRL over a loyal club. SL favoured looking after John Ribot over looking after Perth.

re the Perth RL fans, many do still feel bitter (including me!) but most are still die hard RL fans (like me!) and I was pleased to see that at the first opportunity for years nearly 14,000 turned out suggesting that the burnt bridges may have been mended!

Convincing the corporate sector that A) RL is a sport worth investing in and B) a Perth team will not once again get shafted after a couple of seasons may be much harder!

All this talk on expansion I find amusing, Do you realise that only one NRL team(Brisbane) made a profit last year, How the hell do you expect an Aussie Rules mad town like Perth will be able to support an NRL club when Melbourne which has about 3 times the population of Perth, is only surviving due to News Ltd propping them up.

Adelaide

Yeah you are right. We better all just pack up the tent, shut down the show.

The Game makes the money my freind. It is the combined effort of the clubs that come together under the NRL banner that brings the dolalrs through the gate, through sponsorship, through TV.

How do you think the Swans and LLions survived for so long (somewhat still today) ??? Said propping up.

You're a nunce mate. Youare basically saying "the way to grow is to stop thinking about the future and development."

Dumbest person ever.
